I have an issue that has come up lately.

I can be on my computer for a good amount of time when suddenly things start to slow down. Like if I click on something, either on the web or locally on my puter, it doesn't react until three to four seconds later. Very irritating if I play chess or write something. I have to reboot everything to bring it back to normal.

Anyone has an idea as to why this happens?

Memory issue, perhaps?

It sounds like you have something running in the background that is steadily using up your RAM, and is never releasing any back when it no longer requires it.

You could try doing Ctrl+Alt+Delete and bringing up the Task Manager. From there look at the Processes tab. It will show you everything that is running, and how much memory each is using. You can even sort by Memory, to show what is using the most to the least.

See if anything there is using a lot of memory or cpu cycles. Then take the name and Google it. That is a good way to see if it is spyware or a virus, not to mention to see what it really does if it is legit.

Thanks, Rosa smile.gif

It seems that the IE windows are using about 50 MB each, but what swooped me off my legs was that AdblockPlusEngine is using 144MB*! ohmy.gif

Is it supposed to use that much? There's also a difference between the Explorer windows. One is using less and is called iexplorer.exe and those using much more are called explorer.exe and iexplorer.exe * 32

* Looking more closely I can see it doesn't use any CPU and not much else seems to either except one or two of the iexplorer things. Can't really find anything suspicious in the list so I don't know about this.

Mine has been doing this too recently; and I hit "Control/Alt/Delete" to bring up the Task Manager to find out what was using up so much memory that I couldn't even type = the highest offender was Google; which seemed weird because although I was on the Chorrol site = I wasn't actually using anything Google related at the time. The secondary offender was "Overwolf," which my TeamSpeak was completely off at the time. So I have removed Overwolf (immediately) and checked Google for add-ons that might be running in the background = there weren't any. I ran a scan on my antivirus and did a maintenance on my PC (Internet Options/deleted Temp files/Defrag/ScanDisk/etc).

Haven't had the problem since, so I am thinking it was the Overwolf using the Google and causing it.

Also, it never hurts (I hope) to run anti-virus and maleware checks. Likely not the issue, but better safe than sorry.

Can't find anything related to google or Overwolf but AdBlockPlsEngine does increase its hogging although CPU usage still reads 00.

Looking at Performance where I have graphs I can see memory usage does increase slowly but somewhat steadily though I can't say why. It's currently at 2.11GB out of 3.87.

This is exactly what I did, and explained much better than I explained it, laugh.gif

On mine I found out it was the Overwolf causing it. Overwolf is something I added intentionally years ago; and worked fine until suddenly recently (for whatever reason). I don't know if one of their updates was messed up or if some malware attached itself to Overwolf; but removing it fixed the issue.

SubRosa got it, I believe. Memory leak, which appears to be related to adblock. Interesting, because I also use it, except with Firefox... Think I will duckgo Adblock + memory leak and see if anything is noted

One thing that I think can help things for me; I disabled Adblock for most things except youtube. Could have done it years ago since I only got Adblock because of youtube anyway kvleft.gif

As reported elsewhere, I've been suffering from a Win10 Taskbar that can become only partially functional. I at first thought it might be a compatibility issue between Win10 and DaggerfallSetup.exe. I now have irrefutable proof that that is not the case. This led me to realize that the issue first appeared a day or two after being forced to updated to the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update. An online search finds others with this same issue post Update. Several mention that they disabled Cortana, and that re-enabling it restored Taskbar functionality. I'm going to enable Cortana and hope for the best, much as I've rather not.

Woot woot woot, and woot in the bargain. My Firefox TabBar is now below the AddressBar, abutting the main view window!!!!!!!! I did this not by add-on or in-browser control option. Instead, a .css file can be created and placed in a certain Firefox sub-directory. That file gives instructions for the move. I only just did so, so can't comment on potential downsides, if any exist. Found out about all this via YouTube videos. Now if I could only find a way to create a .css file to end the likely successful attack on Net Neutrality...

Well poot. End of the day yesterday I clicked on the windows icon at taskbar far left to begin the shutdown process. Nothing! Clicked on the speaker icon near taskbar far right to bring up the volume control. Nothing! At that point I had resort to the old "three finger salute" technique (ctrl-alt-del) - click the "shut down" button at that screen's lower left corner, wait for a message to top up telling me the computer is waiting on something, then click to ignore the wait and continue shutting down.

Yup, the taskbar issue I thought solved isn't. Now I've got the taskbar issue, Youtube audio/video sync problems, popping audio. My best guess remains that these flaws have something to do with the Win10 Fall Creators Update, since I'm all but 100% certain that all was well before then. Slightly complicating the issue is that Firefox updated to v57 around this same time. I can't see how FFv57 could screw up the Win10 Taskbar, but don't want to summarily dismiss that possibility. Too, another of us, who doesn't use Firefox, has mentioned sync and popping.

Well, I cannot access the imgur website at all. Not my own material nor bring up links of screenshots by other. Not even my own signature. I've had this problem for a few days now and find myself unable to support and comment on the imgur offerings of others - frustrating. This the essence of what I get:

'An error occurred during a connection to i.imgur.com. SSL peer cannot verify your certificate. Error code: SSL_ERROR_BAD_CERT_ALERT'

My browser is Firefox but the problem persists even if I use one of my alternate browsers. I use ESET and have briefly disabled its internet protection to troubleshoot but the results are unchanged.

Urk, sorry for the problem you are having! I don't think it is with Imgur (unlike the Photobucket issue); but maybe with a recent update from something? Because I haven't run my updates recently; and Imgur is working fine on this end.

Just checked. Logged into my imjur account and accessed images without issue. Latest version of Firefox (57.0.2, 64-bit).

I can bring pics up and even access my own (third) account. Still can't upload anything from my own puter though.

Any alternative out there?

Hmmm....I didn't try uploading while there. Found an Oblivion image I'd not yet uploaded. (I consider it somewhat sub par.) Revisited imjur. Uploaded with no issue. Was able to add a description and, as is evident, add it as a link here.
