QUOTE(Acadian @ Jan 27 2018, 01:53 PM) QUOTE(Dark Reaper @ Jan 27 2018, 11:07 AM) Well tomorrow I turn 37 and in three years I go hill climbing. Looks like someone needs to correct the birthday entry in their profile. . . . QUOTE(Dark Reaper @ Jan 27 2018, 01:59 PM) I try to fix the day but it won't update...oh well.
Hope you can get it corrected so both of us pop up tomorrow. No hill climbing for me. Not with my knees. Climbing out of bed is about as adventurous as I get. Even that is sometimes fraught with peril. This post has been edited by Decrepit: Jan 27 2018, 09:18 PM

Happy Birthday Decrepit! Though the time of day may not be known When you made your way into this world Whether it be Midnight or 3 am and all the while that storm swirled around that house so long ago Though now it may be gone The memory of Decrepit's birth there Will always linger on. Without even a real address to mark its place in time It was there to harbour and protect you; and despite it all you came out fine. In your life you have given so much more than ever could receive. Your music was a gift for all Your service to your Country The humor that shines from you (so tongue in cheek it is) It keeps us smiling all year through. Of all your talents my favorite though the gift you've given me was the fantastic gameplay vids you let us see Of your Avatar's travels (Vilja and you). I don't have a Birthday gift to give you Or even a tasty delicious cake to chew that could ever match what you've given all of us Just by being you! I hope you have a wonderful Birthday, Decrepit! ** Reaper = Hey, where is my Birthday Brownies? Lol. I know these double birthdays in one month is just to get more cake to eat!!! But you deserve, it , lol. Hope you have an Awesome Birthday - Again!!! Happy Birthday Reaper! This post has been edited by mALX: Jan 28 2018, 06:48 PM

QUOTE(Decrepit @ Jan 28 2017, 10:06 AM) Happy B-day, Dark Reaper!!!! And thanks to all for your kind wishes. And now a bit of useless trivia: I do not know what time of day I was born. There is no place to enter such data on my official birth certificate. I once asked my parents about it. I no long recall who said which but one believed it to be around midnight, the other about 3am. I wish I'd thought to ask why they thought as they did. Too late now. I was born at home. This was not by choice. Rather, a severe winter storm hit our area, burying ground and roads in deep snow, preventing a drive to the nearest hospital, which while not terribly distant wasn't all that close either. One of the town's doctors was called in to perform the delivery. (Our town was too small to boast of anything other than a few general practitioners.) The house I was born in stood for many years, little changed. It was eventually torn down and replaced by a low-income housing unit that by and large rests on the same foundation, or at least occupies the same general area as the old foundation. I have no personal memory of living in that house, though it holds sentimental value for me. (I believe it was torn down around a decade ago but might be wrong. My brother is likely to recall more of this. He has a better memory for this sort of thing than me.) Though in town, in those days our house had no street name/number. My birth certificate has two slots for this info. One is for the hospital or general address of birth, which is filled in as HOME, <CITY>, <STATE>. The other is for street address, which is filled in as BOX <xxx>. (The first home I consciously recall living in, in that same town and so far as I know still standing, had/has a conventional street address.) It prolly goes without saying that the data on my certificate is entered by pen or, less likely, pencil. For anyone who was wondering about some of the references in that "poem" = they came from the story of Decrepit's birth he told us (quoted above) last year on his birthday. It was so inspiring to me that he knew all that about the day he was born that I wanted to write him a poem about it. Really wish I'd written the poem last year when I was still able to rhyme words, QUOTE(Decrepit @ Jan 29 2018, 04:06 AM) Thanks for the B-day wishes, with a special nod to mALX for her nifty prose. Didn't do anything to celebrate yesterday. My brother visited, but for once didn't stay the name due to work schedule. I myself retired to bed extra early. (Which of course means I woke extra early this morning. Too darn early by a long shot.)
As for today, I "might" celebrate with one of my rare sit-down restaurant splurge meals after today's early afternoon doctor appointment (about my loss of voice) depending on time. Might also swing by Barnes & Noble and pick on the 2018 edition of Great Model Railroads magazine. (I need to pick up TurboTax at Target or Best Buy in any case.)
A day late, but sounds like an awesome way to celebrate it!

QUOTE(mirocu @ Jan 30 2018, 12:10 PM) QUOTE(Decrepit @ Jan 30 2018, 12:06 AM) Received an unexpected B-day gift today. Carried through with my plan to eat a sit-down restaurant splurge meal following my doctor appointment. Near meal end, a Latino looking fellow sitting in the same section as me left his table and walked toward me with a big grin on his face. He announced he was paying for my meal!!!!! We shook hands. I thanked him to the extent my all but lost voice allowed. He proceeded to the register area. At meal's end I told the cashier I thought my meal might be covered. Yup, it was. How often does something like this happen in a lifetime? Never, in my experience. And on the day after my B-day? What an odd coincidence.
But who was it, and how did he know you just had your b-day? The man was obviously the legendary Jose Villa, also known as “El Bandido de Cumpleaños”. He is known to rob from the rich and spend his spoils by buying random people Birthday lunches. How lucky Decrepit was to be visited by Jose!

I generally keep quiet about such things, not wanting to draw attention to myself. Had a not lost my voice I might well have asked his first name. Prolly not his last. I'd expect him to volunteer that if he wanted me to know. QUOTE(TheCheshireKhajiit @ Jan 30 2018, 02:03 PM) The man was obviously the legendary Jose Villa, also known as “El Bandido de Cumpleaños”. I think you may have touched on something here. Jose Villa. Is it possible Villa was long ago spelled Vilja? Maybe the man was triggered by some subconscious spontaneous yearning to assist another fellow human being with an ersatz connection to Vil?

I think that is just so nice, and deliciously synchronistic! You most def deserved the nice present! Khajiit has no idea what you are talking about (it was a joke because His character travels through tamriel with Vilja) = https://i.ytimg.com/vi/oWmUJl6Az-s/maxresdefault.jpgThis post has been edited by mALX: Jan 31 2018, 10:55 PM
