QUOTE(TheCheshireKhajiit @ May 28 2018, 06:32 PM) QUOTE(SubRosa @ May 28 2018, 05:26 PM) All you folks talking about chili prompted me to whip up a batch of my own homemade chili. I forgot to buy kielbasa, but it still turned out good!
Ooh! Do you make yours hot n’ spicy? Khajiit loves a nice hot n’ spicy homemade chili over a Hebrew National hotdog with shredded cheddar cheese on top. Umm, good stuff! I put a little bit of cayenne powder in it, but not too much. Just enough to give it some zest. But not enough to burn. I use Carroll Shelby's chili kit. It has a little thing of cayenne, and I use half of it. The beef it was really makes it though. I don't use hamburger. I buy stir fry beef or failing that stewing beef. Fry it up, then dice it fine and throw it in the crock pot. I add in a big link of Kielbasa (I am a polack after all!), plus mushrooms, diced tomatoes, and red beans (not chili beans). QUOTE(Decrepit @ May 28 2018, 05:38 PM) Had one of my rare restaurant meals today, not because I especially craved decadent food, but to test my upper partial which needed to be altered following tooth loss. Chose the only restaurant I ever dine at any more, one of two all-you-can-eat Chinese buffets. (Americanized Chinese of course. So far as I know, there are no true oriental eateries in my neck of the woods natives to that part of the world would recognize as such.) The good news, despite the partial now coming loose when I bite down on my finger, during today's meal it remained solidly in place without a hint of loosening. It also remained in place during the one meal I tested it with at home...a Wowbutter sammich and half apple. I do not normal eat with my partial in at home. Why bother? I have enough of my own teeth to chew effectively, and there's one less thing to clean after meals.
The Buffet recently remodeled its interior. This was my first meal there since work finished. I couldn't care less about the redesign one way or other. But...the offerings all looked especially yummy in their trays, and tasted better than they have for quite some time. Was more pleased today's meal than I have been since the restaurant changed hands years ago. A good sign, I hope.
Have I mentioned I now add half a Jalapeno, finely diced, to each supper salad? They improve those meals ever so much. I recall buying Jalapenos years ago but stopped for some reason. No idea why.
Glad to hear that your gibs are holding up! Maybe you could ask this guy where he got his!

Take your cornmeal, and whatever seasonings you like to make cornbread with, and throw a can of creamed corn in it. Cut you up some jalapeño and toss that into it. Add whatever liquid you like to use to make your regular cornbread (we usually use buttermilk) and mix until it’s the right consistency. Then just bake like you normally would. Mmmhmmm that’s good stuff!
I've actually made it like this! (and used the buttermilk, too!) And yes, it is fantastic!!!! ‘Tis especially good with chili!

For Khajiit, it’s the weird crunchy/chewy texture.

I have an unnatural aversion to chopping up heads of lettuce. I hate it with a passion. Makes no sense. I mean, I crop up lots of veggies every night for my supper-salads. That doesn't phase me in the least. Chopping lettuce heads is no more difficult than those other veggies. Nor does it take much longer that any other individual veggie. Yet a feeling of dread comes over me whenever I look in the fridge and see I need to chop another head. A slightly younger me would use lettuce-chopping night as an excuse to make a run to Subway for a sammich supper. That makes no sense either, as getting clean and dressed plus the ride to and from Subway is WAY more bother, to say nothing of expense, than chopping lettuce. Nowadays I stick to my guns and chop, unless I decide to postpone it a day by having one of my veggie-tuna-rice combos. I couldn't do that today, having run out of rice earlier in the week.
To add insult to non injury, this was a V8-for-lunch day. Gads that stuff is foul tasting.
On the plus side, this morning's oatmeal, banana, cinnamon, artificial sweetener, dash of Sugar Free Strawberry Preserves combo was as yummy as ever. In fact it tasted especially good today.
