QUOTE(Sakiri @ Jun 6 2018, 10:49 AM) QUOTE(mALX @ Jun 6 2018, 04:26 PM) QUOTE(Sakiri @ Jun 5 2018, 03:41 PM) I cannot for the life of me find someone to put this porch on the house.
This is ridiculous.
Mirocu would build a wonderful porch! Most general contractors have people who do their porches; and if you can ask the contractor to talk to the person who does their decks = they will usually enjoy making some extra funds on nights or weekends. If you have any neighbor that works construction, they might do that kind of work on the side. Our area has a website for local neighborhoods that lets neighbors offer their services (or sell items, warn of suspicious people, etc). Even places that sell house trailers have a company that they contract with to do their porches; and will give out their names = those contractors are always looking for work on the side and would be willing to take on extra work. Also, on Saturdays or Sundays in the newspaper they always have listings in the classifieds for people who do that kind of work. If your old porch is in dangerous shape and the cost of repairing it is too high for a person's funds, there are numerous government agencies and churches all over the country that do that kind of work for free; and usually supply the materials as well. I am actually having my front porch done too = June 21-25th; so just got through what you are now = trying to find someone to do the work. Now if I can just find someone to build a retaining wall! I need a Mirocu for that! I live in a rural municipality and don't speak Swedish so actually finding someone is on the shoulders of my bf. He called one place today, they can't do it til August. He's trying to see if someone he goes to dialysis with's son knows anyone(he's a painter, paints houses) that we can call. Next up is to try the phone book. I don't think there's any groups like that. House trailers aren't very popular here that I've seen(and I live in the type of place you'd find house trailers). Everything here is so formal. I also don't want Joe Random doing it... I want someone that's done this kind of work before and can have it done in a professional manner. If I wanted Joe Random doing it, I'd do it myself, blind bat and all. Seriously, left eye doesn't work, no depth perception, really poor vision left over... and bf's on dialysis, doesn't have the energy to do much at all, much less a project like this. We're looking at a deck extending halfway across the front of the house. House isn't that big. So probably a good 15 feet wide(4.5m) tops. Probably little bit less. I actually didn't see where you lived till after I sent that; but those answers probably only covered living in the U.S.; I'm sorry about that. I hope you find someone soon, it is always frustrating to me when I want something done around the house and can't get it done timely enough = constantly seeing the place where the porch would be and visualizing it in your mind how you want it done = irking to have to wait to see it happen. Good luck with it!

I bit the bullet, re-shot my Transport Fever Ride-Along at 60 rather than 30fps, and opted for a higher bit rate. Also rendered it with a higher quality format in my video editor. The result wasn't stellar, but a definite improvement over the original rendered video, easily good enough for viewing. Uploaded it to YouTube. Again, the final viewable result is sub-par. It's akin to looking through some sort of gauze filter in my opinion, especially when the train is in motion, as it almost always is. I find it curious that the several times I viewed it on YouTube I was defaulted to 720p, though 1080p is an available option. Right-clicking the video and selecting "info for nerds" shows 1920x1080 as the optimal resolution. (It should go without saying that my uploaded original is 1080p.) For the brave at heart, here it is, video warts and all. I'm curious to hear your takes on video quality, and if you too default to 720p: Transport Fever Ride-Along - Oil Refinery Rail Hub to Dunwich and Back Again

QUOTE(mALX @ Jun 9 2018, 04:31 PM) QUOTE(mirocu @ Jun 9 2018, 09:28 AM) Ten more Thujas planted! I also put in my last order, yes my LAST order, for another batch of ten. After that I'm done - WOOHOO!!! You know the drill, pics or it didn't happen! Eh, it's just more Thujas. Doubt it would be too much fun to watch. Plus, if it didn't happen, that means I don't have to spend more time watering!

QUOTE(SubRosa @ Jun 8 2018, 04:43 PM) To Dunwich? The Horror! It is cool that there are cars which stop at the intersections to let your train through. I watched it at 1080p, and it seemed fine to me. QUOTE(Sakiri @ Jun 9 2018, 04:50 AM) Yeah it looked fine at 1080p here, too.
But I know the gauze effect you're talking about. My videos get it too.
Most odd. Continues to look sub par to me. I've since changed OBS settings and get appreciably better quality raw footage. But renders still aren't up to snuff. I'm experimenting with those settings too, but so far haven't found an acceptable solution. Yet, motor vehicles add a bit of spice. And of course there is freight trucking and passenger buses/trams. What I like to do is find an excuse to scatter homesteads throughout the countryside (thanks to the mod Plop Town Buildings) and set 'em to have a low number of inhabitants. That way there are always vehicles traveling roads. If it gets to be too much I can reset inhabitants on individual houses to NIL and keep 'em for decoration only. 11 Jun 2018 ADDENDUM: Rats! Began uploading a second TpF ride-along late yesterday evening. Went to bed (the couch) with a bit over two hours to go. Woke this morning to a freak electrical outage with no apparent cause. (Weather's fine.) Naturally, it occurred before the video finished uploading. Lost all that time and work. (Typed out description, tags, so on.) Can't use the internet for anything else while videos upload (slow as molasses) so don't know that I'll tackle it again unlit this evening prior to bedtime, at the soonest. Still not thrilled by the rendered quality of this second ride-along, but it's markedly better than the first. Question is, how will it survive YouTube processing? That's what did in the first episode. Up until then I deemed it barely adequate if watchable. This post has been edited by Decrepit: Jun 11 2018, 09:46 AM

Bah! Woke around 0330 and putzed around on the net through breakfast (0500). At the tail end of breakfast, down to about two swallows of milk.....POOF.....no electricity. Reported it to Entergy. Was told 740ish were affected in my area. Estimated back in service 0800. About 0735 Entergy calls saying new estimate is 1000. Thankfully, it came back on several minutes before 0900. No idea what happened. Weather's fine, if hot and muggy. (Entergy called while writing this. Reason is "damage to Entery's equipment." Well duh.)
Speaking of which, due to the outage I walked even earlier than usual, leaving the house around 0600. Good thing I did. According to a weather report I saw prior to the outage, by then it was in the mid seventies with a "feels like" in the mid-high eighties. The walk went well enough though I didn't feel as energized as it days past.
Meant to mow the lawn circa 1900 yesterday evening. As a reminded I donned my mowing gear at the end of supper and killed time playing Transport Fever. Next time I remembered to check the clock it was 1948. I might have postponed until today but wanted to get it over with, as much as I could mow before it became too dark. Had a setback early on when the mower choked on excessive grass and took a long time restarting. As it turns out I was able to get it all done, though near the end it became hard to tell cut from uncut in some spots.
During today's outage I did some little projects. Got rid of a bunch of out of date "current medication" lists. Dug out my Logitech MX518 packaging and put the mouse and its booklet back in it in preparation for giving it to Goodwill or maybe a local school computer class. (I've a bunch of obsolete gear ready to do the same with. Only I never remember to do so when out and about.) Put an old landline phone in the Goodwill stack. Threw out some cardboard shipping boxes that have been cluttering the kitchen for ages.
Gaming wise, this morning's project is supposed to be fixing a too bumpy roadway junction in Transport Fever, if I can do so without having to redo a lot of intricate scenery. Due to the outage I might not mess with that until afternoon.
Addendum: Fixed that road bumpy junction. Wasn't as difficult as expected. However, while testing it riding in a truck I found LOTS of floating assets roadside, mostly with the scenery I added yesterday but a few in older areas. Most are gonna be tricky to fix, a few might be impossible. We shall see.

QUOTE(mirocu @ Jun 16 2018, 10:10 AM) Project Thuja complete!
Yes indeedily! I have today planted the last ten Thujas and I must say I'm pretty happy about them! They will look great when they grow nice and tall, provided we'll see any [censored] rain between now and eternity.
snassin' frassin...
Can you toggle clipping and take an areal shot of them? QUOTE(Decrepit @ Jun 15 2018, 10:24 AM) Bah! Woke around 0330 and putzed around on the net through breakfast (0500). Really good you got your walking in early with humidity like that! Acadian does his walking at daybreak to avoid the desert heat, but he doesn't get the humidity you do. And that outage sounds suspiciously like old equipment trying to handle a bunch of air conditioners running at once to me, lol.
