QUOTE(Sakiri @ Jun 27 2018, 03:00 PM) *

I should probably start turning off my mouse at night. Lol. I eat batteries for lunch with all day use as it is.

My pc is never shut down.

I owned the original Logitech Cordless Mouseman. Used it far longer than I had any right to, decently into the optical sensor mouse era. It was of course a "ball" mouse. Three buttons on top but no wheel. No side forward/back buttons. I believe it came stock with an old style PC Mouse connector but provided an adapter for those newfangled PS2 peripheral sockets. As mentioned I used it year after year after year. Darn it, for what it was it was a fine mouse. But...it used an expensive non rechargeable battery. Not proprietary but not easily found. Those battery remained charged a quite a long time compared to AA and AAA, but eventually had to be replaced. I'd hold off as long as I could, mouse response becoming more sluggish every day. (The cursor also drifted pretty severely during low charge periods.)
One day I decided to figure out what I'd spent on replacement batteries over the years. Did the match. Don't recall what it amounted to, but the total was staggering. Went out the very next day and bought an up-to-date corded mouse. I still have that old mouse. At the moment it's in a pile of old PC parts and peripherals to donate to Goodwill, assuming I remember to do so.

I spoke to soon regarding my blue splotch problem being fixed. It's not. Yes, I reduced splotches quite a bit on still images. Reduced but did not eliminate. Videos seem only a bit better than before. What's more I now believe some (no all) complaints I have regarding my Transport Fever YouTUbe uploads are the fault of blotching rather than blurring. This makes sense when you guys say the videos look better to you than they seem to me. (Splotching isn't in the source material itself, so far as I can tell.)

Weird with the splotching. Can't think of what would do that.

My problem with corded mice is the location of my pc. I need a *really* long cord. Longer than usual. So I got cordless. And it was an expensive ergonomic mouse.

New laptop, new problems, it seems.

After Windows 10 auto-updated itself, my entire 1 TB disk is missing. It doesn't even show up in the Disk Management, as if it were deleted.

Any ideas how to recover it?

If you can open up the BIOS settings, see if the hardware knows it's there.

I assume you have two drives or there wouldn't be a Disk Manager to tell you it can't find it. That would suggest you can get help on how to do that from the system.

Best suggestion ever tongue.gif

Btw, does anyone know if there's a way I can stabilize MS-DOS? I keeps CTD when I play Duke Nukem 3D. On Windows Millennium.

Hmm. Me reckon SubRosa's suggestion may be applicable here too... tongue.gif rollinglaugh.gif

Thanks for your suggestions, I had to take it to the dealer today because yesterday it wouldn't even get past the "Preparing automatic repair" notification on the loading screen. The laptop is only 2 days old and I have more problems already with it than with my almost 10 years old Dell. cool.gif

Ew. Hopefully everything sorts itself out.

Thanks!

The issue is solved, there was a problem with electronic circuit so some cable detached and as such my disk disappeared, that's the approximate explanation I got. They reinstalled the OS and some other programs for me and I got a discount for some further shopping.

Excellent.

Sounds like a simple enough fix too.

I've heard it's the best Windows OS ever and I can believe that. What breaks it for me is all the hidden settings that, if you can find them, keep changing back to their initial setting and forces you to do updates and install things you don't want.

I forgot to mention that some little data which I installed on the new laptop (Fallout 4 and its saves among them) was lost because when the cable detached, the computer automatically started its recovery process and recovered only the data which was installed by default. No big loss, though, and Fallout 4 is already installing now.

I don't hate Win 10, my work laptop is equipped with it. But I'll never convert my two home computers (which are 8 and 8.1) over because they work so flawlessly for me just as they are. When 10 came out a couple years ago I heard about all the conversion probs folks were having and just didn't get involved! tongue.gif

I should have known! I'm thwarted once again by Windows' inability to keep the PC awake while my latest Transport Fever Scenic Ride-Along uploads, despite telling Control Panel to let it remain awake five hours before napping. As I want the upload over and done with I'll make do with next to no sleep yet again.

The upload would be finished now had the computer stayed awake as it should. Instead, I'm at the 57% mark! Another morning of not being able to watch YouTube vids, since uploading turns the internet into molasses.

That said, I think I found a work-around. Set my video player of choice, VLC, to loop an earlier SRA episode. Since doing so the PC has stayed awake. It's not been looping long enough for an ironclad verdict, but signs are good. Had I thought to try it earlier I might have gotten another few hours sleep. Too keyed up now, though I'm groggy as heck.

Have you tried to look up why it'd be hibernating regardless of your settings? I know some laptops have separate sleep controls.

Windows 7 has different settings than windows 10 too, I distinctly recall being able to put various things into hibernation mode, not just the entire computer.
