Have you tried to look up why it'd be hibernating regardless of your settings? I know some laptops have separate sleep controls.

Windows 7 has different settings than windows 10 too, I distinctly recall being able to put various things into hibernation mode, not just the entire computer.

In younger, more mentally alert days, I delighted in modifying DOS and Windows so that they would bow to my whims rather than I to theirs. Nowadays I more and more often roll with the punches and hope for the best. But yes, I vaguely recall searching for a solution. Seems to me the advice I found either didn't apply to me or didn't work. I suppose I can try again, but if the video-loop trick works I'm content.

We'll see, won't we?

I manually put mine to sleep at night so it never does it on its own. Auto hibernate gave me nothing but issues.

Auto Hibernate really does cause huge issues for me too; and no matter what I set it at I still catch it going into hibernation! What is that about?

I wish I knew.

My problem was that the PC wouldn't wake up after. I had to shut down and restart.

You can't disable it altogether?

Also; I still need to figure out if I can stabilize MS-DOS on my Win Millennium puter. Any ideas, guys?

Whenever I play Duke Nukem 3D on my Millennium, it keeps CTD at certain points in the game. No error, just CTD, and always at the same spots. I guess one issue could be that Millennium wasn't built on MS-DOS like 3.1 was.

That's the same problem I had.

I did try to, but it never stopped it from hibernating, and no amount of mouse moving or key pressing would wake it = I had to hit the "Reset" in the back and turn it back on. Any unsaved progress was lost.

I finally fixed it by setting it for the max amount of time before hibernating; and then would click on a key or move the mouse (open a desktop file and shut it again) to keep resetting the timer on it. Of course that meant the PC was on all the time; which wasn't good for it either.

My new PC is a little better; I have it set not to hibernate and it still does regardless - but it is totally random when it does. I can be in the same document and one time it will go to sleep in 20-30 minutes; the next time I'll wake up in the morning and it will still be open.

But the new computer has two "On" buttons right next to each other. When the computer hibernates (despite all my efforts to stop it from hibernating) = the store I bought it from said I have to click on one of those buttons to wake it; and the other for turning it on.

Guess what? The hibernating button doesn't work at all, the same button that turns it on wakes it up; and it boots up saying "Resuming Windows" = and everything that was on the screen when it shut down is still on there just as it was! So I haven't griped too much at the shop I bought it from, only the couple times until I learned how to wake it through experimentation.

My old PC still has the issue, so when I use it I have to remember to activate it every 30 minutes or so to keep it on all the time.

** Mirocu, are you using a DOS-Box to run the game? That might help.

Mirocu meant turning off the Hibernate option (which I tried to do, but it kept turning itself back on no matter what I did to stop it)

@mALX - No I don't use DOS box to run the game, although Millennium does have MS-DOS built in. I guess it's just not so stable.

You think I can install and run DOS box on Millennium?

I don't know, but SubRosa might know. I am pretty sure she is the one that told me about DOS box years ago when they first started giving away Arena and Daggerfall for free. If it is anything computer related, I feel very safe asking SubRosa or Ghastley; they are my "Go To" people for anything technical, lol.

Knowledge of Millenium Edition is something else. There are some things that need to be forgotten. ohmy.gif

Don't see why DosBox shouldn't work. It's main use is slowing things down, so the games remain playable on faster processors. Some of the old games treated processors they didn't know as the slowest.

Edit: and the other features are sampling the video for higher-res displays, and converting OS calls to newer ones. Even DOS changed.

I remember one time when I downloaded the freeware version of Daggerfall it came with a DosBox emulator that by passed the Dos and treated the game as a click and play. Sadly I forgot where I got the download at.

I'm using DosBox to play Daggerfall (and Arena) on Win 7, but ME is long gone from my systems. ME was installed on a laptop for a short time before that died, but most of that machine's life was under 98 SP2. I never tried DosBox under ME.

I found that I needed to run DosBox (on Win 7) for the mod tools for Daggerfall, as well as the game itself. Those were all 3rd party tools, as Beth didn't publish any until the Morrowind Contruction Set.

Here you go. BEST way to install Daggerfall. All-in-one package. Game. Built-in DOS. All official patches. Lots of unofficial patches. Extra content. Super stable. (I wish Oblivion were close to as stable!)

There are no official tools, but I did find some third-party ones. I played Daggerfall as an Orc!

Made that mod myself, as well as adding some quests to the game.

So I guess I'll download DOS box then, but how do I use it to play a game that's already installed and that's using MS-DOS?

Thanks, Decrepit! I'll add this and Arena to the Arena/Daggerfall download page in my thread. The ones I had stopped working so yeah, much obliged goodjob.gif

From what I've found on the internet, that Millenium OS seems to have a known issue with DOS based games.

Here is a link to a discussion and site on playing DOS games that may have more info:

http://www.dosgames.com/forum/about336.html

By the way, is there any way you can reformat it and replace the Windows ME OS with Windows XP instead? (or even Windows 98, for that matter; then upgrade to XP) - would that fix the issue?
