This topic came to mind when I was thinking about games, which I often do The hardest games I´ve ever played are all for the classic NES, Gameboy, Sega Mega Drive (Genesis) or just about any other console on which for the most part you cannot save wherever you want and come back to it another day. The only choices you had in order to see the later stages was either to put in a code or to sit through the whole game every time you wanted to make a try for them. For one thing I never bothered to sit through it all only to get to the hard parts where I would be too tired to succeed and secondly, I´ve never been good at timing. I hate games that only rely on timing your jumps n stuff. So, what are the hardest games you´ve ever played? Edit: I realize not being able to save isn´t what makes a game hard. I should have pointed out hard in terms of gameplay like the first stage in Back to the Future 3 on Sega Genesis, or games where one hit can knock you back into a pit like in Castlevania and Ninja Gaiden. Sorry for not being more clear This post has been edited by mirocu: Dec 31 2013, 11:42 PM

QUOTE(Sakiri @ Nov 12 2018, 03:03 PM) Dark Souls series is brutal. Hardest game I've personally played...
I don't even remember. I avoided most of the hard NES and SNES titles. Maybe the original final fantasy, because I didn't know you were supposed to xp grind and I was horribly underleveled
I heard the 3rd game's a bit more forgiving and probably better for starters, but that's like reading the last page of Return of the King because the other two books were hard to read.

Dark Souls brought out the calculating, patient, pragmatic sadomasochistic min-max player in me. I entered that game as a trash-talking #360noscope420BlazeItYEEHAW CoD playboi, I came out of it a man.
I’ll never forget that game. It legit impacted me as a human being, to risk sounding dramatic; I’m not lying when I say it taught me patience and calculating all my moves beforehand, and I was like, young (15 I think or 16) so that was actually pretty beneficial.
Still tho, it’s not for everyone and I heard that the second game toes the line between simply hard and unreasonably torturous (only played the first game KEK).

Worst part is, the story looks interesting and I'd like to play it just for that, but there ain't no way in Hate I'm touching a game that difficult. My blood pressure thanks me.

QUOTE(mirocu @ Nov 14 2018, 12:07 PM) Maybe it's been easified on the Switch?
Kinda...You can use save states now. As for the original you had infinite continues and even if you died and used said continue you'd pick right up from the last checkpoint.

QUOTE(mirocu @ Nov 14 2018, 12:17 PM) Ooooooh, save states. And I reckon you don't have to play it twice in a row in order to truly win?
Nope still have to do it twice.
