Personally, games and books (moreso books) teach you a lot of stuff, but I don't think people are influenced by rpg's greatly. Perhaps the game doesn't make you a whole lot more creative, but creative people flock to the game? Cause and effect.

Hehe. Oh yes it does. See all the fan art and fan fiction, all the mods and new models people have created? That's creativity inspired by RPGs for you biggrin.gif

EDIT: typo corrected...

That's probably pretty true - it's mainly those who are more creative who enjoy RPGs since those with less creativity/imagination tend to stick with games that give instant enjoyment, and require less attention to storyline and lore. Those who don't have a lot of imagination don't tend to see the allure of a fantasy-styled world, which is the basis of most RPGs.

I think RPGs like Morrowind that involve alot of reading can positively effect young minds with reading and creativity I don't really think it influences adult minds much but that's just my opinion. It's just harder to get the younger audience to like a game that doesn't have constant action and fighting.

Adults could benefit from games like Morrowind even more than children if only they knew how. It could offer them a nice distraction from the hardness of the real everyday life, like a rest from the routine. I know several adults who have been affected by Fantasy RPGs like that.

Good point. Adults benefit the same if not more than children from games. Kids just play as a way to pass time(Usually) and adults generally play for more of a break from the stresses of everyday life I guess.

Yes, a break from stress is one of the big reasons I play. Working in emergency services I tend to get quite a bit of it. Actually recently got one of the fire captains into playing Morrowind. Score another for the TES people of the world. I just happen to bring my xbox with me to work a lot as it gives something to pass the time with us all. Sometimes we're never there and others we're doing next to nothing all day.

I think rpg's influnce people to be more creative and do stuff like join rp's and stuff.
if you go to a madden website your not going to see a "roleplaying" forum. just a bunch of guys calling eachother retards. people who play rpg's seem to be more sensible and open minded.

and stuff and stuff.

I'd say its a situation of the Chicken and the Egg. Do fantasy games, and liturature for that matter, make people more creative or do creative people tend towards fantasy games? I'd definatly agree that there is a corallation though. I myself often find my day-dreaming up new situations for my fanatsyesque dreamworld, usually when its a bad idea to do so, such as when I'm driving.

Just an idea..someone should try and put an RP thread up in Madden forum and explain how we would all be a team member and it wouldn't be just games, but behind the scenes stuff. Check the responce. It might be alright.

I think you've got an interesting point about how a game like "Madden" would react to roleplaying. It's also interesting to see the roleplaying/mainstream balance in my current online RPG of choice, World of Warcraft. There are naturally a fair number of roleplayers, as the game is an RPG with fairly deep (if slightly over-the-top) lore to it, but because it is so mainstream (as MMORPGs go) there is a much larger number of people who seem to be from the shoot-em-up style mainstream mentallity. But then with games like TES, the majority of players are very interested in the lore that is so central to the game.

Simply because it's vaguely related, I'm going to post something about my own current RPG habits here: An RP-PvP server is soon coming out for World of Warcraft! Too long have we roleplayers suffered the less interesting PvE environment. Now I am all set to join a ridiculously bloodthirsty group of trolls intent on raising the troll race back to its former glory when it's empire stretched across the world! Muahaha!

On a side note, is there anyone here who plays Neverwinter Nights online? (I'm sure some people mentioned it). I'd like to get into roleplaying online, as people keep pointing it out as being superb for in-depth roleplaying, but it would be nice to start out with some help and guidance from people I know, as I am not familiar with the multiplayer aspect of the game or the way in which dungeon masters function (I have never played a pen and paper RPG, you see).
