Do you know the name of the red peppers you got? Khajiit wouldn’t mind a spicier replacement for bell pepper in this one’s Cajun/Creole recipes.

Can't recall off the top of my head what their bin is labeled as, but my receipt simply calls them "Red Bell." They look just like traditional green Bells except the color. Where I shop they, yellows and greens are next to each other. Unless mine's a fluke they are indeed spicier than greens. Not a lot. Just enough to be a pleasant improvement. Don't know how well they'll stand out in elaborate recipes, but it can't hurt to give 'em a try.

QUOTE(mALX @ Jan 18 2019, 10:37 PM) *

As much as I love salads = could never bring myself to eat one every day! That would make me sick of them really quickly = variety is the spice of life!

I have to agree with you on the burgers, though = not a fan. (Not a big red meat eater anyway, and burgers are at the bottom of that list, lol).

Yeah, it can be a chore to eat salads as frequently as I do, especially with vegetables nowadays tasting so bland. (At least those I can afford tend to. There might well be plenty of ultra yummy salad veggies out of my price range.) Something I forgot to mention during my long diet discourse...while I turned down those yellow peppers I did buy a red peppers from the bin next to them. It too was sold for the price of a Bell Pepper. These I like! Just enough spicy heat to give them a nice flavor. A definite improvement over Bell Peppers. I like them so well (again compared to Bells) I debate adjusting my food budget to include them once the sale ends, if possible.

On the subject of salad, some time back someone, Sakiri I believe, made a passing comment about Ranch dressing. It reminded me that I've not used Ranch in ever so long. I'm not normally a big fan, but for variety's sake decided to give Ranch a look-see next grocery run. I ended up buying Hidden Valley Cheddar & Bacon Ranch. Expecting disappointment, to my surprise I rather enjoy it.

As to burgers, I don't dislike a truly good burger. Far from it. Again, it's a matter of priorities for my limited splurge meal forays.

Bell Peppers used to be my favorites; but I've noticed them being completely tasteless in restaurants and even in some of the grocery stores (especially the discount ones). I would have thought it was my own taste buds having issues if I hadn't found them tasting just as good as ever in another grocery store (way out of my way to drive to).

The red peppers that look like Bells are sweeter; and (imho) are an awesome addition to salads (but to me, the yellows have always been too bland to be worth the cost unless I just wanted a pretty variation in color to the pot/sandwich/salad/whatever.

Frozen vegetables seem to have gotten tasteless to me too; but that could be because I've been banned from salt; lol.

On the tomatoes = restaurant tomatoes have always been tasteless to me; mainly because they buy "Beefeaters" to get the biggest tomato for the price. Beefeaters are notoriously tasteless. Around here the grocery store tomatoes are crap too; because they ship their tomatoes from across the country = because they aren't allowed by their franchise to buy locally.

Here in ETN we have Grainger County Tomatoes = you have to go to the Farmer's Markets to get them; but boy is the trip worth it. You will never have a better tasting tomato. I used to grow them at my old house; and got really spoiled.

In the grocery stores = unless they are allowed to buy locally; the Roma tomato seems to be the only one with any real flavor.

Now = on the burgers = I do agree with you on there being some good burgers (most definitely NOT in any fast food places, though). But there are two restaurants in this area have delicious burgers. One is in downtown Gatlinburg; 65 miles from me and bumper to bumper traffic on a one lane road the last 15-20 miles. Also, my husband could grill a really great burger with some decent ground beef; but the grocery stores in this area stopped selling "Choice" quality meat and dropped their quality down to "Select." It has made a huge difference in the taste of the meat. They did it to compete with Walmart adding discount groceries to their stores. (Walmart meat is lower than Select quality; 6% of all Walmart meat weight is tenderizer if that tells you anything about the quality of their meat, lol).

We are spoiled here, it is easy to get good produce for reasonable prices in the grocery stores. Which is good news for me. My jeans got a little tight over the holidays, so I'm eating mostly vegetables these days. tongue.gif

For salad dressing I whisk a little olive oil plus whatever I want that day (lemon, herbs, vinegar, mustard) with salt and pepper in the bowl I'm going to use for salad. Then add the veggies and toss. Fresh dressing every time.

Lol, ooooh ok. Yeah Khajiit has used red bell pepper before, but primarily for color. Any bell pepper flavor tends to get lost when this one adds a habanero or 2-3 serrano peppers (which are crucial to obtain the spice heat level Khajiit desires).

When I was pregnant with my son I used to crave Hooters hot wings.

I just made soup with hot Italian sausage, carrot “noodles,” onion, and kale. Also fennel seeds, red pepper flakes, and a splash of cream. Since there’s no snow and I don’t have time for a fire today, soup is the only good thing about this weather!

Khajiit usually sprinkles some cheap shredded cheese on his eggs. happy.gif

I had a fruit salad for breakfast. It would have been improved by some sausage and eggs.
