What disability were you referring to here?

I was on SSI for 30 years and told I could own property, but I had to be living in it. It didn't count towards my asset limit so long as I was the one dwelling in it.

Don't know much about other stuff but I'd be VERY leery about having someone I'm not married to owning the property I live in with out some kind of legally binding contract. Being able to be thrown out at a moment's notice is just a terrible thing.

I'm on full SSI disability due to a brain injury I sustained as a kid and according to Oklahoma SSI Law I can't own property, which is a crock of (doody). Thankfully my sister agreed to help me out on it.


Anyway I've set a new goal for myself for next year. I'm thinking of getting this beauty .

Wow, that seems rather discriminatory, and could potentially lead to vulnerable people being forced out onto the streets!

I'm trying to look into it from what I've gather from looking online is I can exclude my house as a income source as well as still keep my disability and own my house as long as its my place of residence. It's probably something My Dad and I have to go to Social Security or call them and have a talk to them about it. I know I can't own a home and be on Food Stamps or DHS programs so that's a another fine kettle of fish to fry right there.
This is why I hate dealing with "THE MAN" .

Totally get you. If SSA can't give you good info, a lawyer might.

The way it was for me(legally blind with bipolar disorder, on it 30 years) was that I could own it, had to be my residence, and no I couldn't rent it out.

All else fails, if your sister or whomever can help out, that's great.

In CA I didn't qualify for food stamps while collecting SSI... that is definitely a state by state thing.

Well I've learn a bit more on SSI and Home Ownership. I can own my home and be SSI disability as long as I'm living in the home and don't sell it, if I DO sell my home that's where they'll get me. Anyway I think my dad and I are going to put the home ownership in a LLC and that way our butts are covered from any legal issues...Ah the joys of house ownership -_- .

Transferring the ownership will get treated as selling it, if it's not done properly.

Yeah, was just about to say that.

If you're gonna do that I recommend a legal expert that specialises in disability law.

I'm one to prefer experts when it comes to stuff that'll hose me if done wrong.

And bird, I still can't feel it. The tissue is completely numb and the two good whiners I got? Can't feel pain in either.
