One came yesterday.

I can't pick anything else up til Friday, so hauling all that [censored] is gonna be FUN.

Steam took a steamer on my SSE install and upgraded me to Anniversary Edition, despite being set to only update when launched. I need steam online for other games, so offline mode isn't an option.

I haven't played since October 24th, which was when I looked through my saves for something but never actually played the game. I haven't actually played Skyrim since September.

And it updated, completely ruining my 80 gigabyte install.

Screw you, Steam.

That's the reason I don't use Steam. Possibly there are more reasons, but that's one.

I've pretty much forced myself to accept/tolerate Steam's mastery of the PC gaming universe. That said, I thank my lucky stars that I have three official copies of PC Oblivion on disk so can escape Steam's whims. And of course both DaggerfallSetup.exe and Daggerfall Unity are not Steam related. At those are the two Elder Scrolls titles that interest me most, I'm sitting pretty, until some future version of Windows is incompatible with non-Steam Oblivion.

Happened to me a couple of times since SSE released. I quit SSE and now can't even look at LE without thinking something is going to happen.

I have oblivion and Morrowind on disk but no drive to read them. New pcs don't come with optical drives by default it seems.

The cases are going for lights and water cooling. For opti-drives you have to buiild your own PC. Even then good cases with 5.25 bays are getting haed to find. Only option left is external opti drivse.

Also I just realized I'm supposed to quarantine for two weeks upon arrival in the US.

Mine was built to order. I didn't get the option of an optical drive.

Then I wouldn't have proceeded with the order and instead demanded to speak to the manager

Just buy an external DVD (or Blu-ray) drive that connects to your PC via USB port. I've not priced them in a while, but recall that they aren't (or at least weren't) all that expensive.

A good enough substitute

Optical drives are very cheap and pretty easy to install. There may even be usb ones, but I’m not sure.
