One of my biggest mistakes in my Fan Fiction was that I didn't really think about adding in a detailed description of my character...before I describe him, is background history allowed?

QUOTE(Kiln @ Jul 20 2005, 10:59 PM) One of my biggest mistakes in my Fan Fiction was that I didn't really think about adding in a detailed description of my character...before I describe him, is background history allowed? Yeah.. its a kind of discription so go ahead, I dont mind.. But what I try in my Fan Fictions, at least the one I'm working on now is shaping my character in the early pages of the story so you get to 'know him' better, and because he is in such a young age, it will be like the background before I start taking some long jumps over months and maybe years

Oops, I started the thread and yet I neglected to describe my own characters.
Kell Ventrius (aka Kell-Reevor) is an Imperial/Argonian half breed (after a lot of research and debate, I personally believe it is possible in the Elder Scrolls universe). He retained most of his traits from his mother, but his eyes do reflect his human side. Lacking any magical talent, he relies on quick thinking as well as quick movement in combat. He is quiet, and can be a bit impatient at times. He is, however, chivalrous almost to a fault.
Amara is an Imperial in the service of the Imperial Cult. Sometimes a bit foolish, she has a good heart, willing to risk her health to aid others in any way she can. Originating in Cyrodiil, she moved to Balmora against the will of her parents. She lacks any combat or casting skill, only living to help people.
Bryce is a somewhat short-statured Breton, barely taller than a Bosmer. He is a lifetime friend of Amara and has a wife and daughter. At the wishes of Amara's father, he came to Morrowind to bring her back. Upon reaching Balmora, he learned she had no intentions of returning for some time. Fearful of her father, he decided to at least stay and protect her until she changed her mind.

I like this thread... My Fan Fiction guy is Kiln, he is a dark elf with spiked hair and wears black facepaint in the shape of a hand on his face on some occasions. Kiln was born and raised in Ald-Ruhn, his parents traveled all over the land wherever they wanted to go. But one day his parents came home early from one of their expeditions, his mother was sick but she refused to see a healer. In a short time his mother died from the blight, leaving Kiln and his father alone. Kiln's father became depressed and tired of his life and eventually took his own life leaving Kiln to fend for himself when he was seventeen. He didn't have a good paying job and his parents' house was lost. Years afterwards he traveled the land of Morrowind in search of fame and fortune acting somewhat as a ranger. After some events he finds a journal and though he doesn't know it yet, his journey is about to begin...thats a description of my story's main character and the events leading to my story.(Hope that wasn't too long. ) This post has been edited by Kiln: Jul 20 2005, 10:22 PM

Wow! I'm really liking this thread; I get to know more about the characters in ficcies I've read! Yay!
Oh! I should try to describe my two important characters from my two ficcy: Marigold and Emma.
Marigold is a pretty Bosmer with blonde hair and sad blue eyes.
Marigold is a teenage Bosmer mother who seemed to have bad luck with Bosmer men/boys. She had often liked to slip away from her foster home (she was an orphan) and have all sorts of relationships with Bosmer men. But, then, after one particular affair, she became pregnant and gave birth to a baby boy. Her foster parents were not very happy with this, so they forced her to marry the man she had that affair with.
It was not a very happy nor a very loyal marriage, is all I can say. Marigold did not love her husband very much, and her husband did not treat her very well, and often cheats on her.
Then, one day, her husband had an accident while going on a hunt...
This is probably why she seems to be insensitive towards her baby, who was the cause of her misery. After all, she was/is still a kid.
Anyway, Marigold does have a heart. She's just shallow and cynical, is all.
Emma is a young Breton girl with blonde pigtails and brown or blue eyes. (I haven't decided yet, since I drew different pictures/versions of this girl...)
She is only six years old in the fic I had wrote, but I plan for her to grow up to at least 16 years of age, which is the age she fell in love with another Necromancer.
Anyway, Emma has lived in Sadrith Mora all of her life and not to mention has a Telvanni Dunmer father, so she is quite aware of slavery and magic. But, her parents are very generous and kind people, so she gets her sweetness from that. She gets her hatred of vampires from her parents, for they are vampire-hunters.
Emma is very sweet, but terribly serious when it comes to responsiblities and protecting herself and her family.

In my latest story, Gaenor has gone from a happy-go-lucky, inexperienced, and even slightly cocky adventurer, to a stalwart, self-realized, and incredibly powerful being beyond that of the inhabitants of Tamriel. Where he would once laugh over a mug of ale to forget his troubles, he would now confront them head-on until either he or they were vanquished.

Hey guys! Good thread, nice idea! Ok well in my current fan fic (not related to TES though) i'm dealing with 2 characters with very similar traits but on seperate sides. Neither of them want to be where they are and neither of them feel that their cause is justified. However, i don't want to spoil the plot (omg yes i do actually have one! ) so i'll leave it at that and add to it as the story continues. Keep up the good work peeps!

Just some extra information I once again neglected to add.
Kell- age 19. His father, Marcus Ventrius, was one of the greatest knights in the Imperial Legion. His mother was murdered shortly after he was born, so he knows very little about her. He was raised mostly by the servants and guards at his father's estate in Cyrodiil. However, he was still very close to his father. Due to the nature of his right arm, his magicka is constantly drained, prohibiting him from any magic use.
Amara- age 17. Born and raised in Cyrodiil. Her father is a giant of a man that once fought alongside Marcus in the Imperial Legion, while her mother is a mage. Growing tired of the boring life she was leading with her parents, she left to Morrowind to join the Imperial Cult and do all she could to improve the situation there.
Bryce- age 22. Born in the city of Daggerfall, his family moved to Cyrodiil when he was 4. He spent most of his youth living near Amara's residence. Amara teased and bullied him (as she was 5 years younger than him and was still bigger than he was), but they still became friends. At 18, he left his home and his mundane life to be an adventurer. In only 3 short years, he was ready to settle down, returning home to marry his childhood sweetheart.

Huh, good idea "whoever made this thread".
Before I start let me say one thing, Mergirl eat your heart out.
I only have two characters at this point and one is not really supposted to be described much so he wont be in here (Not much to say about him), only Clangor in here.
Name: Clangor.
Race: Bosmer.
Age: 23ish.
Bio. Born in Valenwood like a normal Bosmer he got into smuggling after a feeling responsible for his friends death, sentinced to hard labor he was a changed man upon release. (FF take up here.)
Personality: A loner, stays out of the way of everyone but intervines when needed. Will fight to the death if need be. If he feels bound to anyone he will stay by them and guard them with his life. Very wise but keeps his thoughts to him self unless asked for them, when he then spills everything and anything he can. Normally quite shy he will stay away from the main party but follow at a distance keeping his eye on those he trusts. Appears cold at first glance but is only because he is shy, after warming up to you he tends to be a nice caring person. Most insults fly right off of him as he simply does not care, sees the people who try to insult him as being stupid and ignores them. Very mature but will joke around if he is with friends, but never goes overboard. Fights with a bow and longsword, but prefers the bow. Highly skilled in both weapons making him very dangerious if you piss him off. Instead of charging into battle he stays behind and plans it out, then tends to jump into the nearest tall object and hails arrows down onto his foes, only using his sword in close combat.
Appearance: Tall for a Bosmer, Pure white hair, light blue eyes, "handsome" face. Tends to wear costly robes over his armor (One again, see his fic.) to appear to be a rice, defenceless idiot.
Got enough Mergirl? Incase anyone is wondering how I made him, I simply based him off myself. Well mostly, I dont have white hair for example.

I'm completly forgetting my old story which lasted one page, cause i didn't like how it was going. In my new story my character is completely differant turn.
Name: Florodine Arval
Age:Unknown
Looks: Florodine has a normal dark elf face to some extent, it bears a tatoo of an amazing design, his ears are pierced in multiple parts, and he is possbly the most fit warrior alive
Backround: Many years before, a prisoner arrived from cyrodill, no one knew his past, but an aura of power seemed to surround him, through many years of working for the legion, he soon dissapeard. The time he was gone was dark, a powerful necromancer, soon was rumored to have huge hordes of undead on an island just north of dagonfell. Suddenly the necromancer invaded, and all hope seemed to be lost. Suddenly a group of armoured warriors showed up and fought a huge battle with the necromancer, florodine was the leader of this group, and he was soon honered by all dunmer for his victory.
In the story: Now retired, Florodine runs a blacksmith shop in the town of raven rock, no one there knows of his past, which is the reason florodine retreated to this permenant vacation, to get away from the fame, and pressure to constantly do acts of greatness. Somthing else may come, more powerful then the necromancer, Florodine's adventures are far from done.

These are all the main characters from my former fan fics (I made to many for personal use to all put in here 0_o) and they will star in future fan fics on this forum.
Name: Jace Moonblade
Age: 24
Looks: Shoulder length blonde hair, blue eyes, elven looking eye structure, slight point in ears. He is a half Bosmer half Imperial and he takes after his mother (the Bosmer). Normally dresses in light leather armor or a white (what I call a) "pirate shirt" and brown slacks with leather boots.
Background: Brother to Brink Moonblade. He and Brink are former illegaly owned slaves that escaped into Morrowind. They started an adventuring career and picked up a few more members and eventually started a "Mercenarie" (more like Heroes-for-hire) buisness and bought their own base house in Balmora. Jace befriended the Nerevarine and had his own significant adventures and amassed quite a fame in Morrowind.
Personality: Over confident and stubborn but very skillfull. He is the energetic of the two brothers and never passes up an adventure or an opportunity to slay something. Notoriously thick headed at times.
In the story: After the group went their different ways Jace went off to seek fame and fortune in Cyrodill. After briefly arriving the city he decided to base himself in was attacked by an "army" of daedra. He helped out in the crisis as best he could and protected a temple full of citizens from a wave of Dremora. The rest of the story consists of his attempts to discern why they were attacked and to join the local militia in attempt to defend it. ___________________________________________________________
Name: Brink Moonblade
Age: 24
Looks: Pale skin and pointed ears, elven shaped eyes, short black hair, blue colored eyes. He dresses in black or dark purple robes. He always is wrapped up tightly and has a wrap around his mouth at all times.
Background: Brother of Jace. After escaping from slavery he joined his brother in a series of (quote) "moronic" quests and picked up a few pieces of useless trash (members). He took up spellcasting at an early age by stealing several spell books from his owner. He and his brother founded the Moonblade Mercenaries service and amassed himself a large number of rare magical items and scrolls.
Personality: Brink is very dissaproving of his brother and has a very dark outlook on things. It is hard to discern just which "side" Brink is on and where his loyalties lie. He is obsessed with darker magics and the Daedra.
In the story: After leaving the group to do research in Sadrith Mora he went into deep research of the Daedra. Sadrith Mora was attacked by an army of Daedra some time later and they seemeds to be arriving by mysterious portals. He found himself very unable to control these rogue daedra and even unable to control the ones he summoned himself, he was however able to kill them. After some minor "assistance" to the town guards he witnessed another portal open. He siezed the opportunity and plunged himself into it. In later parts he discovers the mysteries of Oblivion and struggles to stay alive and is greatly tempted to partake in even darker energies. ____________________________________________________________________
Name: Gerrit
Age: Mid-Twenties
Looks: Bosmer. Short brown hair, elven features, brown eyes. Dresses in nondescript green tunic and brown leggings with leather boots. Average bosmer hieght.
Background: Not much is known about Gerrit, nobody is sure where he came from or just what his last name is. He was the first new member encountered that joined the group. They met him in Balmora after he cut Jace's money purse and took off. He was pushed over and flung into a building by Brink's telekenesis and then almost set on fire by a fireball. He later came back to the group and offered his services for a cut of any future profit.
Personality: Gerrit is an eternal optimist and has a penchant for trouble. He is a bad gambler and has a problem with sticky fingers which has put him in trouble with both the authorities and the Cammona Tong.
In the story: He is missing from the group without a word one day. He is later seen in Vivec by the Nerevarine while it is under attack by a Daedric invasion. The Nerevarine witnesses Gerrit crushed under a pile of debris that fell from the second level of the Foreign Quarter Canton. No body found, presumed dead. ____________________________________________________________________
Name: Telanius Andronichus
Age: 35
Looks: Imperial. Especially tall for his race, short military hair and stubble, green eyes, well muscled. Dresses in Imperial Legion stylised (sp?) armors (no purple skirty thing though).
Background: He worked for most his life in the in the Imperial Legion since he was 19. He was later reassigned to Gnisis,Morrowind from Cyrodill. He later during a routine sweep of the garrison found a non mapped cellar in the building where inside he heard two well known members of his troop discussing the assassination of the Emperor who was due to visit Gnisis. He was discovered and he fought the two men and killed them both. The loud clang of the battle brought attention to the newly discovered cellar and Telanius was discovered covered in blood and standing over the bodies of two dead soldiers. Nobody belived his story and he was removed from the Imperial Legion and his citizenship in Cyrodil revoked. He escaped from Prison in Peligiad and lived as a drunk in Seyda Neen. Jace encountered Telanius while he was passed out drunk in Arrille's trade house. He offered him a permanent job and since then worked to mop up Telanius' reputation.
Personality: He is a no nonsense military man. He is fiercly loyal to Jace but a little off put by Brink. He most qualifies for the title of "Paladin" if ever such a thing truly existed in Tamriel.
In the storty: After an unfortunate death in the Gnisis troop a good friend and sympathiser (sp?) of Telanius takes the position of Commander for the unit. He acquits Telanius and offers him a job as his 2nd in command. Telanius thanks Jace and leaves the group to help operations in Gnisis. Gnisis is later attacked by daedra and Telanius' friend is killed thus making Telanius commander. He is met by the Nerevarine and informed on Gerrit's death. He and the Nerevarine then make an agreement and try to improve Imperial Tribunal relations whilst tryng to discern the nature of the repeated Daedric attacks. ____________________________________________________________________
Silinius Telechorle
Age: Mid-Twenties
Looks: Breton. Short blonde hair, thin build, green eyes. He dresses in white or light blues robes of Imperial Cult design.
Background: Silinius was originaly a spoiled son of a wealthy family that lives in Suran. He joined the Imperial Cult at 17 and took up healing while his two brothers went to serve the Imperial Legion in Cyrodill. He ran away from home to be an "adventurer" and to prove himself as "not a brat". He encounterd Jace and his party of (quote) "rugged toughs" and offered his services as a healer. He went on a great deal of quests with Jace and the others and became physicaly fit (as a healer can be) and gained experience in combat.
Personality: Before joining he was a self-centered brat and a coward. But his adventuring experience made he very kindly and understanding as well as down-to-earth.
In the story: Silinius leaves the group after recieving an advancement and position of power in in the Imperial Cult in Caldera for "Overwhelming Achievemnt and service of Good". He works there for several months and then is attacked and knocked out by an especially beligerant Nord who was crazed by skooma and demaned to be made "immortal". Silinius wakes up inside a knocked over wardrobe and finds the inhabitants of the Caldera council house dead and reanimated as zombies by Daedric Necromancers. He escapes and finds the city ruined and most the inhabitants killed. He rallies the survivers and he makes a trek with them in tow the the nearest city for safety. ____________________________________________________________________
Name: Tel Morian a.k.a. Lord Nerevar a.k.a. Nerevarine
Age: (?) (young features)
Looks: Dunmer. typical dunmer skin and eyes. Elabortely styled white hair. Dresses in High Oridinator armor.
Background: After arriving in Morrowind as a released slave Tel goes on a series of quests, crossing paths with Jace, and eventually slaying Dagoth Ur. He travels to Mournhold destroys the Dark Brotherhood remanents under the city and ultimately kills Alemalexia and witnesses the death of Sotha Sil. He returns to the city of Vivec and confronts him ultimately ending in a battle that leaves Vivec dead. Tel assumes the position of Archanon and the former Archanon swears vengance and with him leaves a few Ordinators. The remaining Ordinators remain because (quote) "It is our sworn duty to protect the city of Vivec and the serve the Tribunal".
Personality: Tel is kind hearted and has the best interest of the people of Morrowind in mind but is troubled by his difficult past. He is always striving to better the relations between the Imperials and the citizens of Morrowind.
In the story: After an Daedric attack of Vivec leaves the Foreign Quarter shattered and the leader of the Fighter's Guild dead along with Gerrit, a companion of his personal friend Jace Moondblade. Tel decides to strengthen Imperal/Dunmer relations because it is his personal beliefe that "All of Tamriel is to cooperate if they all wish to survive". He tries to discern the nature of these Daedric attacks and to save Morrowind and all of Tamriel as well.
