QUOTE(Sakiri @ Oct 29 2023, 03:17 PM) Sweden I thought voted to get rid of this nonsense.
I thought we did too, but apparently not.

QUOTE(TheCheshireKhajiit @ Oct 30 2023, 07:14 AM) Please not until after tomorrow! I hate people playing Christmas music before Halloween. Hrmpf!
Especially at this time of year, some people aren't people any more. Cut the zombies some slack!

Speaking of Halloween, I still have an unopened 16oz package of Ferrara Pan "Atomic Fire Ball" hard candy sitting in my pantry, bought for my first Halloween in my current home, 1993. (I moved here Dec 1992.) Back then there were only two houses on the near end of my street (mine being one), and several others on the far end. There were no streets further to the south, but all streets to the north between mine and the town's main drag were fully developed. That first years, and every year since, I turned off all non-essential lighting and kept as quiet as possible. To the best of my recollection, not once has a trick-or-treater knocked on the door. Yet that candle remains in the pantry. To the plus, there is not an once of wholesome, real food in the candle, so it is likely no less unhealthy than in was in 1993. To the debit, these days I don't think I can justify giving anyone "food" that contributes to obesity and poor health, holiday or no holiday. The candly is likely to sit unopened in my pantry another 30 years, unless I either drum up the gumption to toss it in the trash or die, thus passing the buck to my beneficiary. (One of these two options is far the more likely.)

(One of these two options is far the more likely.) Yeah, around here it is etiquette for kids to avoid homes that have their lights off, and it is actually respected as far as I’ve seen. Also, I have noticed a rise in “healthier” options for Halloween handouts in recent years.
