The car makers don't like the big brother safety/mileage stuff either but have no choice since that is forced by politicians.

The car makers do confess that a great many customers want convenience high tech computer gadgetry like gps etc though.

My concern is exactly that - the high tech gadgetry. I like to keep a car for 15-20 years but the new ones are cell phones with wheels. Ever heard of keeping a cell phone for 15-20 years?

At least one car company is moving away from touch screens. Personally, if I need something like GPS, set your phone to do then put it in a holder, the cup holder, somewhere you'll hear the guidance. Don't need to look at it.

Having a cell phone that old is one thing, but being able to use it is another. They are trying to make old cars harder to use in many countries, but with cell-phones you just switch off 3G service, and it's done.

Yeah, and that's what's gonna kill it for me. It still works great and it's only on its second battery, but the shutting down 3G thing is what will make it unusable.

I often find myself in a reverie of the Thanksgivings and Christmases of my childhood. Those memories are always so vivid and happy. The Holidays now feel more like sad reminders of better times.
