After several aborted tries with different class mods, I created a new class for Blood Raven which I am calling Fighter/Mage for now. It is inspired by the old Fighter/Magic-User from D&D 1.0, and Fighter/Mage from D&D 2.0 (and for that matter Baldur's Gate 1 & 2 respectively).
It is a single class that is a full spellcaster with access to wizard spells, plus a few others such as smite spells and other buffs. No spell prep, they cast any spell they know like a sorcerer. OTOH, they do not have access to wizard subclass abilities.
They are also fighters, gaining most of the fighter abilities like action surge, second wind, and so on, but no battle maneuvers.
I created two new smites for them which can be upcast to spell level 6, adding a die of damage for each level upcast. I also created a new improved version of Mage Armor for them, with a 1 point improvement to armor class.
They also get an insane amount of attribute points at character creation, and bonuses to all the skills. Because I am not even considering being balanced with this class. Blood Raven is a superhero, it is made for her.
So far it is working pretty well. Better than I had imagined really. Modding is complicated in this game.
