QUOTE(Megil Tel-Zeke @ Oct 10 2005, 09:46 PM) Edward. UMafter Edward was moved he simply stood back and listened to Rann, "anti-laser.... hmm yes sounds very professional," he said jokingly. he walked over to the dismantled generator, "I hope you can put this back together," he said as h sat down next to Rann, he got out a plasma screen and begin to write on it using the stylus, "Well a laser is a focused beam of radiation, so there is no way we could surround a ship in it, because its to dispersed to be of any use, you would be better of using an incandescent light for the same thing. as such I'm sure two lasers of the same frequency would nullify each other, but at different wavelengths they wouldn't do diddily squat." he drew out how a laser basically works, "you have a mirrored chamber filled with a gas, liquid, or solid. you then excite the substance, forcing the electrons into higher energy states. as the electrons drop down to a lower energy state they release a photon. In releasing a photon, the electron stimulates other electrons to do the same thing. so now you have a chamber filled with photons moving about randomly. they begin bouncing of the precisely shaped mirrors, until they begin to align with each other. then the photon beam begins to leave the chamber in an unaltered and straight path. ." he sketched it all out of the screen for Rann. "Though it was a good idea, I see no feasible way to make it work. and even if it did, we still have the problem of physical objects breaking through" he said this not in a demeaning manner, as he was simply trying to teach Rann something. Rann, Lab"I see what you're saying, but I don't think you would have any problem with Rykar coming through; they would be quite dead." "There has to be a better way than concentrated gas though. That thing is ridiculous." he said, pointing to the dismantled generator.

Edward smiled, "yes, yes it is. Only I don't know what can work, I can think of only one thing that would do it, but it has never been manipulated like that before, and I don't know how we would power enough to surround a ship, unless they wired it directly to the sun. I don't know Rann, honestly I am at a loss over that piece of crap,"
then smoething about what Rann jsut said flipped a switch in Edwards mind,
"You are right, gas is stupid, maybe if we construct a liquid or solid laser, we could get a better result."

"yes, fiber optics are an example of a solid laser. but no like have somethign like a crystal or metal of some sort, were the faceted sides act like a mirror, that way when let's say you poke it with an electrode, it becomes excited and bounces off the interior surfaces. sort of like a cut jewel. only we have it so that after a certain point, a focused laser comesout the other end. and since it is solid you should be able to get more energy behind it.... mayb," the possibilities raced through Edwads head.

Ed was snapped back to reality, he looked down to see that he had been frantically writing down stuff on the screen, he stood up and looked down at Rann, a smile on his face, the gleam of enthusiasm in his eyes,
"Hehe I don't think so, you are going to help me. Besides there's tons of work to be down, we'll need to determine power sources, wirings, cooling, all that stuff. you may not be good with concept, but I know you can damn well create good stuff."

Ed nodded as Rann left, and grimaced as he ate the old candy bar,
"Why? becuase things take prototypes, and While I'm good at concept I suck at bringing it to life. That is what you are here to do, We have hundred if not thousands of prototypes we will need before we figure this out, Both of these projects are not weekend retreats, they are extremely complicated pieces of science and technology. We have a chance at making ahistory, and that will take time, patience, nad dissapointment."
Edward said pacing back and forth, he was brimming with nervous energy,
"Lets see, we are going to need powersupplies, support chassis, So many places to start, but I guess the first stage is building an adequate frame, a powersupply, and a holster for whateer we decide to try. Hmm might want some emergency coolant should the thing overheat."
Edward began scribbling again, then he stopped looked at Rann, you get workin on the physical stuff. I am goign to go see what we have in the chemistry lab that we can use."
with that he stepped out of the lab, and walked into various chem labs and storage rooms(OOC: the rooms have I.D. locks ont hem, not like you can jsut go prancing through them) , searching through cabinets, freezers, and boxes, for anything that might be a good laser conduit.
He returned with a cart full of vials,
"This should get us started."

Edward heard Rann, he was comparing the contents of two vials,
"Paid? sure you do, Did i not mention that to you. The HDF pays us for the research, and we also get money from the intergalctic research grants organization. Besides when you get to play and create, who needs to get paid,"
With that he setup a station at a table, and began getting tools for cutting the samples into the needed forms. and then Ed pulled out the ebook, "165th editiong chemistry and physics handbook" and began to go through it, recoding the refraction data that was available for his cart of possibilities. he glanced up at Rann, who seemed lost and confused,
"Well... do something, copy that thing, jsut not exactly, I need it so that the core is accesible. and also we want as much space as possible so that we don't have to worry about heat." pointing at the laser.

QUOTE(minque @ Oct 10 2005, 09:57 PM) Satyana station 413, research centreSatyana pondered over what Syke just told her, suspecting he didnīt tell the whole truth, she was convinced that there was more to this issue, but decided not to comment. Also she had no intention to even try to help Arthur up from his awkward position on the floor.....she did not trust that man one bit, he could very well just do something to her while helping him. Then she noticed teo men entering, how they came in was a mystery, if they had a ship it must hav been docked to the station and she did not authorized some docking-procedure for some time now..but she didnīt really care, those men looked friendly and she needed some friends now..all this was utterly confusing. "Will someone please rise that scum from the floor so we can hear what he has to say" she said coldly then turned to the newcomers smiling: "Welcome to our little party, Iīm Satyana Viann, commander here, and who might you be?" QUOTE(LoneWolf @ Oct 11 2005, 12:31 AM) Kratos"I'm Major Kratos and my friend here is Major Veda. We just arrived here, and this is not what we expected to find. Care to explain what the hell is going on?" Veda Outside Mars, Research Center 413 - Science Quarters"We're from the newly made SOC-A Division of the Human Defense" Veda said to Satyana continuing after Kratos, "I think we can take our affairs later..." Veda added before he looked down on the handcuffed man. "Enemy Officer you say?" Veda questioned him with a raised eyebrow. Veda soon rememberd the message they got while near Pluto about somekind of trouble over at the Research Center.

Avlin Cox - Mars
Avlin whistled a merry tune as the Swashbuckler docked in a Martian spaceport. "Alright then, crew.." , he said over the intercom. "Khalid, Jecq, Chris, I want the three of ya to help me get the shipment to it's final destination. The rest of you assorted scumbags can go out at your leasure, but don't all of you get overly drunk. Keep an eye on Jeremy for me, too. Oh, and keep your grubby paws away from other people's chicks. This message was brought to you by me, obviously."
The band of lowlife that was the crew of the Swashbuckler cheerfully abandoned it, with Avlin leaving behind three of them. The four of them thusly transported [ooc: by whatever way used now] the illicit goods to Mars' university.
University Of Mars, A Short Time Later
Avlin knocked/rang/whatever way used onto the door of the University's delivery entrance.

Edward-UM "Ya sure Rann, that sounds perfect," He told Rann and then returned to the ebook in front of him,
Edward worked his way down he list, jotting down pages and pages of data on the many materials to be tested, after he jotted them down, he got out his new laptop, and began tapping away at teh keyboard, as he recorded everything in nice neat tables. and drew schematics for each chemical, at what angle it should b cut, how muc power would be needed. Since the room was dim (edward likes working in the dark) the blue glow of the screen reflected of his glasses. the intercom came on,
"Chemistry departmet, a new shipment has arrived for student McKain, Will Edward McKain, or a professor, please report to the delivery port to pick up the package, THank you, <click>" Edward stood up and stretched, he looekd over at Rann who was busy constructing the frame,
"I'll be back," he walked out of the lab down several flight to the delivery dock, where he saw some rough looking men next to a crate, no doubt the nearly priceless shipment of rithum samples,
"Hey there, I'm here to take the package of your hands," he said as he showed them his I.D. they would no doubt have to scan it to make sure it was delivered to teh right man,

"Money? What money," he replied, he didn't know anything about money, as far as he knew the HDF was covering the cost.

"Well...yes, I suppose I missed some small print somewhere," he got out his wallet, and handed the man a card, he wasn't in the mood to argue
"Here take it out of my research funds, there should be enough there to cover the cost"
(OOC: we hardly use cash no a days, I hardly think there will be much paper or metal passing hands in 3000, it will be digital)
