I have had this in development for a while. I feel it is ready to present to the forum and only hope it isn't turned down immediately. If you have any suggestions/questions then by all means post them. *************************************************************** It is the 5th era. The 3rd era ended with the closing of the gates of oblivion. As the gates shut, magicka faded from the world. In the 4th era, the conflicts within the empire settled and people began to accept the new changes. The 5th era begins, and magicka has resurfaced in Nirn. After a whole era without it, there are mixed feelings towards those that have the gift. Eventually, two factions form... The Elven Nations and The Empire. It is only a matter of time before blood is shed and the two factions are at war. The Elven Nations have the benefits of the gifted on their side, and initiate a devastating pincer attack on the empire. The two factions struggle with the Elven Nations gaining more and more territory. But nobody ever bothered to ask why magicka has returned. Soon a terrible enemy will take their opportunity to invade the war-torn continent of Tamriel. The Elven Nations are composed of the Dunmer, Bosmer, Altmer, and Bretons. The Empire is composed of the Imperials, Redguards, Nords, Orcs, Khajit, and Argonians. The Tech level we are looking at is equivalent to Earth's 1920's and 30's with a few exceptions. Nirn had the benefit of the Dwemer, who had possessed technology such as robots and even walkers (such as the large ballistae with legs seen in Morrowind.) Walkers may be used, but they are difficult to operate, and therefore are few in numbers. They have light armor and weaponry and are used primarily for infantry support/anti infantry situations. On the western front, the Elven Nations are steadily gaining territory. This is due to the large amount of battles taking place here. The skirmishes consist of smaller numbers that can easily be overcome with use of magical force. On the eastern front, neither side is gaining a good hold. This is due to the rough terrain that limits vehicle movement, and the overall hatred the two races here have for each other. Battles here are more concentrated and very intense. This map displays the fronts and battles/places of conflict. As you can see, roads are important, as are towns and villages that are too close to the frontline. This RP takes place not only on Vvardenfell, but on Tamriel as well. To make this RP possible, more imagination will be required, and I strongly reccomend you consult the maps located at The Imperial Library. The outcome of the battles will be determined by the people participating in a planning thread. The neutral people that are caught here, like in any situation, are affected. Some more so than others. They will mostly be protesting the pointlessness of fighting one another, but those closer to the fronts may be forced into battle to defend their homes. Sadly, there is no neutral territory for these people to hide in. This is not a good vs. evil RP. I expect there to be heroes and villains on both sides. QUOTE(Kell-Reevor @ Dec 15 2005, 07:35 PM) (insert Kell's proposal here) You know what I think of this idea, Kell, and I'm wondering if you really want it to go unplanned, as is the whole thing behind this thread?

QUOTE(Florodine of Hlaalu @ Dec 16 2005, 03:51 PM) well i like the elven fighting the humans idea, but not the 20's technology, just maybe a little after the third era, and the elves see this as a chance to win freedom, and regain the continent Oh yeah, I'd like to see them try. Of course my character would have to be an arrogant imperial. I'm pretty much in on whatever you guys plan, so uh . . .yeah. School is hell right now. So, I probably wont be able to keep up.

QUOTE(Aki @ Dec 15 2005, 09:05 PM) I don't really like the whole...magicka disappears part of the story. Thing is - That'd be like Gravity or such vanishing for us. Magic is a nautral law of the world (albeit one that allows manipulation of the world to certain extents)... and its a integral part of the races as well... ...And It seems so..un-TES unlike... *shrug* The magic has come back, though not EVERYONE has it. Un TES-like, you say. Well, don't we want something a little bit more different, something more of our own (Saying this to everybody, not just you, Aki)? Intestinal, the magic eventually disappearing wouldn't be the best, because without magic, TES RPs aren't very exciting. Unless there is a source behind the slow disappearance of the magic, and can be found and stopped, it would be pretty much of a drag. You're saying that technology wouldn't be good, but wouldn't they be forced to switch to it if all the magic disappeared? Sorry, I'm just in crit mode here... *slaps self*

Indeed, magic was not only used for destruction, but for healing and especially curing illnesses. Without it, I'm sure disease and such would run rampant and sort of force people to develop alternative ways for treatment.
Not to mention, Nirn has the benefit of the Dwemer's abandoned machinery, that would as well provide a nice shove for developing technology.
And yes, magic did fade but it is now back. So if the lack of magic makes an RP not worth playing...lets just say thats really not an issue here.
From my understanding Oblivion has always had some link with Nirn, which is why the Daedra had such an influence. I was basing that influence on the existence of magic, so it didn't simply dissapear for no reason. Rather, by shutting the gates completely it was blocked off temporarily.
I really think some of you would enjoy this concept if you would just give it a try. I know it's strayed a bit from your usual great house this and Morrowind that rp, but that's because I thought you would all like something a little different.

i dont think i'd like a TES RP if it wasnt just swords and such, so the technology in nirn thing knocks me out of it, like i said, magic doesnt have to be dissapearing, it could be just an elven nation rebellion, meanwhile the argonians and kajiht (sp?) have formed a protection pact, that way nirn is like a battlefield, complete mayhem. Meanwhile there are a few who wish to end the war, and we could say like so far Vvardenfell is the only place not affected by war yet... Meanwhile the war gets closer and the imperials have come further into morrowind, so thousands of elves who were fighting for freedom, come to vvardenfell, oh wait haha, i guess WoH is kinda like that, however this would be a more straight forward war, so i suppose it would still work

Sorry, I'm just in crit mode here... *slaps self* They would kinda...die actually. People like Fyr and Theranna would like...turn into ash (no magic means no life extending magicka and thusly means no ancient boat people like Fyr). Bretons would be somewhat screwed. Nords wouldn't be much affected aside from loasing the woad ability and no longer being immune to cold, Orcs...well they'd be fine, Khajiit would be majorly screwed, their whole species thing is based on the Lunar lattice (position of the moons) and if that aint magicka I dunno what is , Dunmer would sudenly be less resistant to fire and lose conection with their ancestors...etc. Supernaturals like Undead, Daedra, Vampires, Werewolves would also all be screwed...more majorly than the races. They wouldn't think to go to technology, these people don't know tech beyound what they already have. Its like taking tech away from us and saying "Use magic." We would suck and die, as using magic is simply something we don't do. Besides, Dwemer tech isn't all cold hard science, a good deal is magickal. Dwemer centurions seem to be inoperable outside of Morrowind. They turn off once they get so far from Red Mountain...but start back up when brought back into range. This leads many to believe Red Mountain (more specificially the Heart of Lorkhan) to be a powersource for Dwemer objects. Kinda explains why a steam-powered machine can function for 4,000 or so years I guess. So yeah, take magic away and the races will crumble to swift ruin. The sun, Magnus, is actually the source of Magicka. It's more or less a hole ripped open to the Aetherius, the realm from which Magicka stems. So no magicka would mean = no sun.... Which er, would be bad. As the Vampires would be too dead to enjoy the eternal night and mortals would starve as their crops died (and animals dieing all the way up the food chain from plant-loss) and they starved to deathand such. Real messy. /ramble Anyway, on plots, why does it always have to be some big thing, usually involving a war? It could be some as simple and small as the fued between the Theives guild and Cammon Tong or Morag Tong and Dark Brotherhood was in Morrowind. They were smalll, underground wars/skirmishes/fights. Not saying we should use those (though DB vs. MT might be fun) but they're good examples.

QUOTE(Florodine of Hlaalu @ Dec 16 2005, 09:42 PM) hmm yes i like that idea, could be a guild war type thing (not the game just guilds fighting) So like MT and DB could fight. or TG CT, or FG CT. Or maybe like we could be in a city (dont worry it's just where everyone would start) like mounhold, or Vivec, and there are like two huge families who hate eachother, and they hire like the MT or the DB to pick off the other family's leaders. However it eventually comes down to riots and huge street brawls, untill the two famillies fight openly against eachother. So like a huge feud, between either two or four families. I mean it would be realistic that kinda thing does happen. I kinda like the family idea...sounds mafia-ish.

haha yeah thats kinda what i was going for, like a mafia fight over... hmm well what would be a good town for it?
Well i suppose we could have a poll for which town people want. So we could have four familes something like... (im just throwing out random names)
Dren Family (Camonna tong): The dren family came with the empire long ago, and are used to crime wars. They run mainly in moon sugar and other drugs. They hate the Varus's Owns: many plantations near the town, and the slave trader in town
Varus Family: The Varus family are the richest of the families. They have been in the city the longest, and think this gives them the rights on the territory Owns: The Varus family make up most of the nobles in town, and run the Morag tong, with their money
Saryoni Family: The Saryoni family run much of the temple in town, since they are related to the patriarch. They think that the other three families are heretics for going against their word Owns: the temple and ordinators, making them the strongest
Flavias Family: The Flavias family are quite new to town, they are a family that moved here from cyrodill. They are mainly imperials and claim that the lesser elves give up the town to their business Owns: The East Empire Trading Company, and the support of the legions
Of course this is not an open war RP, the town starts off relatively normal... The Families hate eachother, however not anything big has happened yet. The Flavias family (just an example) move in and the trouble starts. The varus family demands that the EETC leave, because they themselves own many of the ebony businesses. The Saryoni family immediately support the varus's against the new imperial family, however only in words, no action is taken. The dren family has been using this as a way to get more drug business into town. The Saryonis find this out, and demand the arrest of the dren leader.
This could be the starting stages, and people just pick which family to join. Just an idea, any ideas to add to this or change in this???

The MT wouldn't do that, they're more or less a Religious cult to Mephala, money is a bonus when it comes to their assasinations really. Doesn't stop the Varus from using the Tong the most though...
