QUOTE(Soulseeker3.0 @ Mar 25 2006, 04:07 PM) Yeah, I was going to buy a horse, but I didn't have the crud-load of money... I think I should try and raise my personality and mercantile or something well, he said house, not horse lol but if you get into the main story a little you get a horse for free ****SPOILER**** Bring Martin back to Weynon Priory and after that situation is cleared, you're to bring Martin to Cloud Ruler Temple in Bruma. Martin and Jauffre will go back to the stables and take 2/3 horses. The third belongs to the dead Prior. Once you get on, it is yours.

there is no need to lock your house because they made it so no one will come into your house. If there is a way I don't know it.

I haven't purchased one yet , permanently, but I am saving up gold for the Bruma one. I have like 8000 gold and 12000 if I sell all my gear, so I went on a little shopping spree by trying out each house just for size. Personally, I think the one in lewy.. le.. (the town farthest south) is okay, but it is quite expensive for very little room. I like the one in Bruma, as it has two floors and it looks pretty nice. The manor you can purchase in.... crap I can't believe I keep forgetting these names! The town west of Skingrad, it has a large manor for 5000 gold but it was very creepy and it had a seal in the basement, which I assume is for some quest about the owner who dissappeared 100 yeras ago.
Because of my lack of gold, I could only buy one or two furnishings =(
I'm pretty sure the Bruma house is for me =)

The manor in Anvil becomes fixed up and fully furnished once you lift its curse. Before that, however...
Well, a steady supply of Ectoplasm can have its uses.
Myself, I am just loving Rosethorn Hall in Skingrad. I even hired myself a servant!

Hmm... well anyway I don't really like Anvil, it is too pretty and calm. I didn't even know which place was for sale in Skingrad, thanks... how much was the Rosethorn (without furnishings). And do you treat your servant well?

The cheapest house in the game is only 2000 Gold. You can buy it from the woman at the Imperial Census & Excise Office in the Market District. (Thats not the correct name for the building but I'ts close) First you have to raise her disposition to at least 60 for her to mention the house in conversation. You can do that using the Speechcraft mini-game or by bribing her. The house is located right outside the city in the Waterfront District.
Once you have bought the house, you can buy furnishings at the Three Brothers Trade Goods in the Market District. The only furnishings I have bought was the Storage Room kit. It adds a chest to the foot of the bed, a Dresser beside the fireplace and another chest to the left side of the fireplace.
Its pretty cozy and functional for a house that only costs 2000 Gold. Plus it is right there outside the Imperial City so the location is good.
