Don't have the game yet, but I will get it but first I just want to know how good the game is, I know this is no doubt a stupid topic as im posting it in a oblivion fan forum, but without any bias what are the pros and cons of the game? and once you have your character developed, can you pick up armor etc? as I seen in one of the screenshots you can pick up ''Daedric'' armor which looks pretty bad boat, other question is how is it adapting to most of your systems, is the game running fine etc? Also will this game appeal to a fps player? I play fps games, and one RPG which is FFX.

Also is the strategy guide which you can buy really helpfull for starting off? I have never played any other elder scroll games, I was just told about this one, that it will be really good etc.

Yes, like any other RPG you can pick up armor... If you want dreadric armor dont get your hopes up if you kill people in oblivion at level 1( like I did) the ones there drop maces but they can apear any way they want as some magic. They have fake armor and you wont get a real set for a long, long,LONG time.

By the way any elder scrolls game lets you summon the dreadric armor or weapons but its not as effective. In oblivion there are shrines that summon the armor and weapons(always both) for you.

Alright thanks, just trying to get a better understanding of all the stuff you can do, the dreadric armor looks bad boat though, so its hard to obtain?

Also in races which is the best race? imperial looks good, but if you want to become an assasin how would you do that?

For assassin, I like to choose wood elf. Or one of the beast races, khajit or argonian.


the main bad part of the game is the bugs....such as a jumping bug in a certain area of land, and the fact that the game is regularly crashing to desktop in certain areas.

^ Guess since the game is so big, but they will release patches or fixes?

Anyway what class is the best in your oppinion for strength or fighting, swords or heavy weapons.

strategy guide ruins it.

Alright I was looking at the strategy guide because it would tell you how to make a good character like take them the right way and not mess things up.

Which race do you have?

And wha would you rate the game as a whole out of 10?

The game: 11/10....heh I know thats not possible...but how good I think the game is.
My computer exeeds the reccomended system requierments, so the game flows nice for me...i have not had a single crash...yet.

Of the Races, I would say go for either redguards or nords...but if you want an assassin char...I would actually go for a Dunmer...thry are the best.

Of classes, I reccomend either knight crusader of battlemage...they have the best combinations...

I highly suggest you buy this game. There are so many things you can do in it.

The game is incredible, easily one of the best RPG's I've played. That's not to say it's without bugs or flaws, but the pros easily outweigh the cons. My biggest problem with it is the scaling levels...as you get higher in the game, everything gets higher with you, so you don't get to go to a nice cave near Seyda Neen and whoop everyone, like in Morrowind. Still, I'm getting used to it, and I'm enjoying the game. Get it. Now.

im looking at the map now.... is there any ova hide outs apart from in cheydinhal for the dark brotherhood and im not sure if i wanna be a vampire or not???? how many of u are vampires ??????????

I originally wanted to stay a vampire after the quest... but then i just got pissed by the daily feeding, the people not liking me, not being able to run safely at day time etc. gave it up.

Detox, there isn't anything you could mess up, well nothing essential. I just took a battlemage, because i like the class, read a lil bit at charactercreation, found out breton s about best for it, etc.

During the game, i became quite a good thief (as i can turn invisible, open locks etc per magic), a pretty decent fighter, with and withoug weapons, can beat people with destruction spells or summoned things, so... you don't need a guide, unless you need a guide in life yourself you see?

I completely disagree. Sure, if you use the walkthrough in the guide you're lame, but there are some VERY good character creation strategies in there. From reading the instruction manual, you get the idea that creating your own class is an option. The strategy guide points out that NOT creating your own class is a MAJOR liability as the skills are often redundant (ie, there is little reason to have both blade and blunt as you should just specialize in one weapon). I would never have created my own custom classes unless I read this. Also, for those who don't have the net (or don't use it often) this may be their only way to get unstuck in a quest.

My first character was a vampire and a badass one at that. It takes evil to deystroy evil. As to the guide. You don't need it after reading this thread. Just realize that your stats affect you skills. You skills affect how well you do things. So pick stats to support the skills you plan to use. Put the skills you use but that aren't in your character's specialization (eg. combat, magic or stealth, whichever set of skills you pick levels faster.) Pick a weapon, conjuration, a way to open locks (security or alteration), a kind of armor, ...
After that its sneak for sneaking, restoration if you want to heal yourself or whatever you think you want to do. Just take conjuration, a weapon, a type of armor, and a way to open locks. You'll be just fine. Also the khajiit ability to use night-eye all the time is very very nice. And Vampires rule cause daylight is for sissy's.

I dont always have access to the web, definately not while playing, so I bought the guide for the alchemy/equipment lists, as well as for quest tips, maps etc... I DID read the character creation but disagreed someone on it... I dont like having every skill I use all the time as a major skill... It means you level up VERY quickly and never get to max the x5 mutliplier... Also, some skills like Sneak, Athletics, Acrobatics and all magic skills can be leveled fr free at no danger to yourself... turn autrun on while swimming in imperial city or sneaking into a wall close to some guards... So setting skills like that as majors also seems unnecesary since you can pretty much level them "at will." I dont recommend the guide if you can just hop on the internet. There is a guide on IGN.com plus hundreds elsewhere by now I am sure. There is a great alchemy site where you can design any potion you want based on your skill, I THINK someone may have found the map I am looking for (like the TESMAP that was made for Morrowind, SO COOL!!!) So if you have the web, the guide is really a waste, since all of it is available on the internet... As for its ideas on characters, TES games are great because there is no "right way" to make a character. In fact, in Oblivion, if you are an FPS skill type player, you can beat things with lower skills just by being more skillful as a player. My blade was level 5 at level 4 on one of my "test" chars, and I was still able to destoy 1-2 enemies with only losing maybe 1/4 health. Just have to use your surroundings, MOVE when its coming at you, utilize all your skills...

There is no "most powerful" char. At varying stages, all characters will be powerful, and at some point, all you skills will be maxed and all your attributes will be maxed, and then what?? Really, Breton Apprentice or High Elf Mage-sign would be best becuase with all skills maxed, only difference between races if Magicka....

Thats my opinion, though I will admit that at lower levels "Jack of all Trades" types are harder... just gotta use all your resources, swipe a few times, block a few, dodge a few, cast a few spells, drink a couple potions, poison the old weapon, get the long range sneak arrow in, power attack them off a cliff!! He he...

Just my rant on this I guess... definately get the game you will have fun, because no matter HOW you like to play, YOU CAN DO IT!!

i only looked at the guide to make sure i didn't forget any of the daedric quests. didn't bother reading the character creation part. (super powerful characters just don't hold any appeal to me) just pick a list of skills that seem good to you, and don't worry about being the "ultimate badass". the goal of the game is to have fun and challenge yourself. if you follow the guide to the letter, you won't ever run into anything you can't handle. if you defeat something that you shouldn't be able to (like killing umbra at lvl 12 for example ), you get more satisfaction.

but hey, play the game however you want to, that's what bethesda made it for, after all.
same thing goes for a race, just pick something that appeals to you. i went with dunmer because i wanted to play a character that worshipped anscestor spirits and daedra. and unlike most people, i accually liked the dunmer npc's in morrowind.

I'm mainly a FPS player myself, although I've switched more to strategy games etc. as I'm getting older.

Morrowind (the TES game that was released prior to Oblivion) was the very first RPG game I tried, as I for some reason had no idea what a RPG game was, and I had no interest in finding out. But it came bundled with a graphics card I bought a few years ago, so I fired it up.

To this day, I have never played another RPG than Morrowind (except Oblivion), and to this day I have never played a better game than Morrowind (although Oblivion is probably going to get in the lead shortly after 2 days of intense playing with my jaw dropped down to the floor).

This game is in fact a FPS, but it's so much more. You can play a single game for months, just walking/riding around exploring the huge map without having set rules or missions like you normally have in a FPS game. You develop your character, and fight bad guys in a FPS style or in a 3rd person view. You can change whenever you like.

You pick up missions on the way if you like, or you can just skip them. Your choice. The gameworld is immense. If you've never played a TES game before, I envy you. You have a great time ahead of you if you buy it.

Btw I've chosen an all magic type of character, and I don't know yet if I'll regret it. I'm a Breton mage class, born in the starsign The Mage. I like casting spells as well as swinging my sword and shooting arrows. Whatever you choose, it's not that important, as you'll get the chance to increase all your skills whatever class or starsign you choose (besides there are console commands that enables you to change whatever you like after you've started playing).

Anyway, try this game out for a while, and I promise you you'll not be able to abandon it for many months! And no, I'm not paid by the developers...

I really do hope a demo is released for this game, as it would gain so many more players. Then again, how do you make a demo of such a huge, completely freestyle kind of game?

Edit: I forgot to say that the graphics and general scenery of this game is more spectacular and beautiful and frightening and overwhelming than any other game you've played - guaranteed! A nice hardware setup is a great help though.

Hey, the strategy guide may be good for telling you what's best in terms of being the best...But I go for more roleplay myself.

Such as, an orc trying his damnest to be a good mage.

Of course I only ever get to play other characters than my main at my mates house.
