How do you get more options for enchantments to add to your weapons and armor? Right now at level 12 I can add the basic enchantments like fire, cold, shield etc.. is there a level or skill I need to get ?

No ,you need to be allowed into the arcane university enchanting alter. Then you also need charged soulstones.

You need to have a spell with the effect in order to add that effect to an item.

Cool, that was what I was needing to know. Now, does it matter if my character cannot even cast the spell ?

It does matter. You have to be able to cast a feather spell to be able to make a feather spell OR to enchant with it.
That's why as soon as you get into the mages guild you might want to stock up on low-magika spells, the better to enchant with.

What George said is right. I found out last night from experience that you have to have the skill and the spell in order to enchant an item with it. I bought the Feather spell and tried to enchant my boots but my Alteration skill wasn't high enough to cast the spell and so I couldn't enchant with it. I then raised my Alteration skill up over 25 and I could cast the spell and I could enchant my boots with it. So there ya are smile.gif

Can you ever get the enchantment higher than say 20% chameleon? No matter how strong my spell it seems to cap at 20%

Try a grand soul in azura's star...
I can't remember you get either 22 or 25%. But other than that, no that's the max on any one item.

Sorry, Konrad, just a little confused by that.
No, you don't need the start for MQ, and you don't use up the star when you use it to enchant, it just empties.
In MQ, you need ANY Daedric quest item. I gave up the Ebony sword because I only had a few at the time and wasn't going to give up the Star or the Skel Key.
