As most of us know,official mod Wizard's Tower was published today.For those who have it:
How do you like it?
For me,it's MUCH better than Horse Armor or Orrery.Exept it looks cool it has some really cool perks.

For those not having the mod,here's some screenshots:

Tower Outside
Tower Inside
Atronach Summoning
Atronach Commands
Tower Garden
Guarded Storage Area(that BTW takes makes a lot of lag,low-end configs beware)
Mage's Guild Teleport
(there is some more stuff,but i don't want to spoil just everything)
There are more rooms,and you can buy some stuff (furniture and such) for the tower in Mystic Emporium.

If you don't have this one,buy it!
This mod will really make your 2$ pay off (IMO).
Perfect for solitude mages,but it's also very useful for any other classes.
A must have!

That is great but where are the Thieves addon the Fighter addon and the Dark Brother hood addon.
Why have both the add ons been Magic based?

I just bought it today as well, and I love it!

I just bought the furnishings and Alchemy table (but not the candles to access the enchantment and spell stations, as I couldn't afford it yet). I get butterflies in my stomach when I think about all the fun I'm going to have in this tower! biggrin.gif Perfect place for summoning creatures to practise fighting and raising skills.

Btw Hypno, I see you have Will-O-Whisps as 'guardians' of the vault, while I have Imps. Could the tower perhaps be level related like so many other things? I'm only level 4 in my new game.

Did you get many exotic books in the library? I only got the standard ones, except for one 200 gold book in the living area.

And what about the Alchemy table, did you get any expert or master equipment? I got one apprentice retort I think, but the rest was novice (I'm level 54 in alchemy).

Perhaps I should try this in my previous level 24 game as well...

Don't think I mentioned any spoilers here, as the details are on the downloads page.

Anyway I love this mod! Very impressive.

Actualy those ARE IMPS,i'm just having a detection spell on biggrin.gif
Unfortinaly,i didn't find any exotic books sad.gif
Just the standard ones as you said.But if you want exotic books,download Daggerfall Books and Morrowind Books mods.These books can be intresting if you didn't play those games.I did play MW,but i didn't play Daggerfall,and i'm about to check up those books soon.
About Alchemy,you don't get a master alchemy set,but you do gain a temporary cool ability.But if you have maxed alchemy,that ability is useles sad.gif

Ah, so that's how your detection 'lights' look like. Mine are more bluish and blurry. Guess that relates to graphics card/-settings...

And I like the Alchemy table indeed. In my new game I'm level 59 in Alchemy, so with the extra 15 from the table I can soon make 75 skill potions. smile.gif I noticed the skill was not green when influenced by the table like when influenced by other spells, so apparently you'll get a 'full' skill boost while standing by the table.

Thanks for tips about the books. I read all Morrowind books, but i haven't played Daggerfall either.

I agree its hands down the best mod. I would have loved to have seen more involving content downloads. Like a long stream of interconnected quests making it a small story. Like Umbacano's quests, I really loved those. But I suppose new content like that is much more expensive to make, with it needing new voice acting and stuff. But I would happily pay £5-£10 if it would be an interesting questline to keep me going for a couple of hours.

I do like my mages tower though. Unfortunatly I had the great timing of buying a house in skingrad and outfitting half of it the day before the tower came out. I like it though, perfect for my magic only character.

I find the bookshelves a little annoying, mainly its the fact that they are all packed with the same kind of books, and that my books and items placed on the shelf seem to seep though the shelf. I had to add my own books to spice the place up a little. And I am trying to finish off all four of my masters alchemy sets. Two of which are only alembics.

Overall though it eases the secret sense of meglomania I feel when playing my powerful mage. Makes me feel more authentic. Good download, definately worth what I paid for it. Puts the others to shame.

I just cannot get behind this paying $2 for mods. It just doesn't set right with me. As I've heard other people say, think about how many downloads you had for Morrowind. Now imagine if you'd payed $2 for each one ot them.
If you played 50 mods ... you'd have spent $100 additional on Morrowind. Seems kinda excessive, doesn't it? nono.gif

the list of Morrowind official mods isn't very long.These are the official plug-ins (i never tryed them out honestly).The fan-made mods,that BTW Bethesda could never hope to surpass,are free.So don't worry,you'll be able to have a lot of good mods,with better quality than Bethesda.The only thing is that i've heard that modders are really anxious about is geting a .nif exporter,but i see that there are a lot of good mods even without it.
As for pay-for-official-mods policy:I completly disagree(with Bethesda,i agree with you).I actualy have bough Horse Armor,Orrery and the Wizard's Tower,and even though i think that Wizard's Tower is actualy pretty good,i think there is a lot of good stuff for free.For example Sage Rime's Mountain Tower can compete with Wizard's Tower quite fairly (especialy when version 3.0 comes out).

I really hope that Bethesda will stop this pay-for-official-mods nonsence.I mean i would be happyer if all those things came with the expansion set,that costs how much?30 Euros?(Just guessing the price).But paying for a lousy trinket like Horse Armor is simply rediculus.

I see i'm spamming my own thread,but i felt necessary to say this.Now moving back to Wizard's Tower subject........

Well that's kind of true, but there are some benefits to it:

- the mods have been made by the same people who made the game. This means quality and proper testing. I've installed more than 20 other mods, and some of them mess up the game. Amateur modders should be more careful of what they release, and at least make proper installers and readme files. Proper testing prior to release would also be appreciated.

Well that was actually the only benefit(s) I could think of now...

Personally I see no difference in buying add-on packs like Bloodmoon compared to instant-buying downloadable small mods that together will make the game better and more immersive like those CD/DVD add-ons (I supect there will be no such add-on for Oblivion, only lots of small download mods?). I'm all for this.

Then again I have a healthy income and no-one to share it with, so that probably makes this easier for me to swallow... smile.gif What I paid for the game I make in about 30 minutes of work (well, if sit and stare at a monitor and write on this forum can be called work tongue.gif).

Then again Bethesda have taken quite a risk with this release, since they don't have implemented any 'real' copy-protection software. I bet they're loosing millions of dollars by doing this, but instead they get a huge amount of 'pirates' hooked - which in turn will probably see nothing wrong in paying the price of half a beer to improve the game immensily - and legally - by downloading these official add-ons. Most of the pirates will probably buy the next TES release or even this release, once they're 'hooked' on the Tamriel lore and history... and games.

Anyway, this post became a bit longer than I'd planned (well as long as I get paid.. laugh.gif), but my point is that I'm with Bethesda on this. The gaming industry is highly corrupted. These kinds of mods are a good way to keep the company in business and be able to bring us more brilliant games in the future...

I agree with what stargelman said about these mods being pretty but useless. The wizards tower is good, but not for much else than to make me feel better about my character.

I think if bethesda do any more mods they should consider less eye candy to rot the teeth. We want more meatyness rich in protein. Some nice new quests to sink our teeth into.

I realise that would probably be much more expensive to make, but like I said, Id pay a lot more for it if I was going to get more than half an hours satisfaction out of it.

Hmmm...well, the only mod I'd pay $2 for would be one that I just couldn't live without. since I am not that bowled over by Oblivion to begin with. I feel like they rushed the game without proper beta testing, even though it took like 4 years or something for it to get here. After all the waiting, I for one,, am disappointed. I'd have waited longer to get it right. This adding saleable mods by the developers just shows that they put Oblivion out on market without including all the ideas that were in the works for it. Guess they could've charged more overall for the game and that way less people would've complained.

Think about the things in Morrowind that you took for granted that are missing from Oblvion - just a few:
Levitation
Crossbows
gloves
Spears
Darts
Throwing Stars
Throwing Daggers = It seems that the throwing function just has not been programmed in to the actions.
Medium Armor

I'm sure you can add some of your own you've noticed missing. There are nice additions of course, like necklaces and rings showing and the horses are awesome .... but somehow they just don't make up for the missing. Not to me.

Well I must admit I never used any of these weapons/features in Morrowind except for levitation, and the Oblivion gameworld is built for not being able to levitate. It would make it too easy (like it also was in Morrowind). Didn't even know you could throw daggers in Morrowind! blink.gif

So far I'm very satisfied with Oblivion, except for perhaps a few features mentioned in this thread.

The archery modeling in Oblivion is much better than in Morrowind, btw, so even I have started using bows and arrows. I'm sure making crossbows will be a piece of cake for modders. Btw, I'm using a mod that enables you to extinguish candles using water arrows like in Thief. Quite cool for thieves and general sneakers... smile.gif
