Rainer hates Racism of any kind, regardless.

If someone should hate another, it should be for a good reason, not for something as shallow as skin. God knows where we could be if people just realized that.

In my (former) country there is only racism towards Gipsy people........
And that's because my country doesn't have any other minority race.
They are 90% whiteman.
So,to be honest i've never met with the problem of racism.
Some of my best friends are Gipsyes, and some even have darker skin.I never looked on them through their skin, only through their actions.

This excludes a certain nation, which i would rather not discus.

This is an excellent point of view, since it is how I feel as well... biggrin.gif

Seriously, I thought Norwegians were mostly open-minded to other cultures until I started driving a taxi. I was a weekend/night taxi driver during the 6 years I took my education. There are a lot of 'dark-skinned' taxi drivers in our city, as I suspect there are in many western cities.

During weekends, about 50% (and I'm not exaggerating) of the passengers gave me comments like "wow, a white taxi driver!" and various follow-up rasist remarks. And during daytime when I was driving older people to and from their elderly homes I had a lot of comments like "oh, so good that you're not a negro!' and things like that... mellow.gif

Every time I heard that, I firmly informed the passengers that I would not tolerate such comments or have discussions on the matter in my taxi. Many weekend night passengers (read: drunk passengers) would get fired up by this and engage themselves in heavy discussions.

When I finally got a word in I would point out that most dark-skinned immigrants come here for a reason; they have to flee their own home-country because of war or poverty or other reasons they have no control over. They come here unwillingly and are eager to make a new life for themselves, and for many the taxi is the first step after going through the initial refugee-stations and language learning centers.

They are eager to get out there and make a living to provide for their families, and all they hear is racist remarks from arrogant, so-called 'anti-racist' Norwegians. How I feel for them! So instead of starting a new happy life, many go backwards and end up having to quit the job because they can't take all the insults, and end up on welfare, which is another reason Norwegians hate them so much ("they get all our tax money!" rolleyes.gif (this statement sounds particularly bad when the passengers say it while they're practically choking on kebabs after having spent 1000s of kroners getting drunk on bars and nightclubs)).

Even highly educated immigrants are having problems getting a job here, in a country where there is a high demand for workers. Managers simply won't hire them. A large part of my former immigrant colleagues had degrees in engineering for example, one of the most demanded types of workers over here (I was practically headhunted long before I finished my engineering education).

I used to be proud of being a Norwegian until I discovered how a huge part of my fellow countrymen were like. Now I'm very disappointed, and feel almost ashamed every time I see a dark-skinned immigrant.

Ok rant over. Sorry for the slight outburst. I'll go back to Oblivion now... cool.gif

I think it is good to speak your mind Olav and I am glad I read your opinion.

I also hate descrimination as long as everyone else here. As a child a used to live in a appartment complex that was divided in half. One half belonged to the hispanic race and the other belonged to the african americans and there was constant fighting between them. Me being Mexican belonged to the hispanic side but I as a child had much charisma (not no more) so I had many black friends and they were not bad at all individually but when there where part of a large crowd who had problems with a large hispanic crowd there was going to be something going down. I loved fighting and it all looked like a game to me until my good friend Jessie (aka el gordo) got stabbed and then everything got out of control. People breaking into others homes and people (both hispanics and blacks) got hurt daily. I soon stoped caring about race so now I only throw it down when someone talks s*** about my personal life or family.

P.S. Now that I looked back I never lost a fight except one. I guess I am a excellent fighter. And by the way when I did get beat I went down fighting and gave those punks a reason to fear me since in the struggle between my friend Mosses, me , Joel, Javier vs all this other dudes (we where outnumbered) we managed to crack some skulls and crush some bones (if you know what I mean!)or so I heard.

Mazelure,

Thanks for your support, and what you have experienced seems like taken from a movie from my point of view! People getting stabbed, fighting on a regular basis... blink.gif

I must admit that I've never been involved in a one-on-one fight in my entire life (and I'm 36), but I think that's mainly because of my diplomatic nature, which was also very useful when driving a taxi. Several times I was certain I was going to get beaten up and even killed by desperate junkies or manically depressed drunkards, but I always managed to calm them down, and they basically ended up hugging me 'for being so nice and understanding' (maybe I should have been a psychologist... wink.gif)

Anyway I understand that the issues we're experiencing in this country far up north is nothing compared to a continent that has been the 'home' for slavery and racism practically long before Norwegians moved out of caves...

Rainer as well.

Rainer's friend's father knew Rainer's father since before Rainer's father met Rainer's mother.

After a plane accident in Northern Alberta, (killing a School teacher as well) he drowned because the Plane was landing on the water and suddenly flipped. The whole thing was in the newspapers for a while.

After Rainer found out, he went an entire schoolday without talking to anyone. However, there was a very nast girl in Rainer's Class that was tesating Rainer about it!

Rainer ignored her for a while, then he turned around and slapped her once he could bear no more.

All this happened in Grade 8 (Rainer is in grade 10 now)

Yeah, close enough for it to hurt a lot inside.

But I had seen it coming for a few days now so that eased it slightly...

Ouch, my good man, let us not go to that bloody, sad place again... People should not be judged for their race, nation or religion - only by their actions. That is why I don't hate people because of all these things... I hate them if they act like a**holes and deserve to be hated (like good ol' Sloba, God stomp his soul).

Poor guy sad.gif Once I get to enter this thing you call "Coffee Shop" and I'm greeted by sadness. Damn. I myself have been to a funeral yesterday. My aunt (father's sister) had finaly died, after year and a half of torment. Parkinson's disease... but hey, should I mourn and be sad beyond myself ? Hell no, she has suffered so much that this comes as a deliverance to her. I honestly believe that she's in a better place right now, although I don't and can't know that for sure. It's the living that have to cope with their sorrows.

p.s.: Konrad, please accept my condolences.

"edit" and oh yes i would like to add, catfights are the best. but never throw water onto the two girls that are fighting. i learned that the hard way.

Sorry to hear that, and I'm sorry for posting such a long and trivial post about racism, although I feel it is still quite important in our society.

My father died when I was 16, and I still feel guilty somehow for not mourning him more than I should have (my parents were divorced, so I visited him every two weeks in another city. I hated the traveling).

My grandmother is about 82 now and close to her grave, I'm sad to say. I haven't visited her very often during the last few years, but your post made me feel guilty about that, and I'll take the time to visit more often.

My condolences to you! mellow.gif

Now, heavy metal! Awesome stuff in my opinion. I'm pretty much into mainstream heavy metal, not obscure ones that everyone seems to branch off into. I love the sense of energy to it.

I feel like giving a few cents on the racism topic.

I think the United States is probably one of the most tolerant places on the planet, more than North Europe, or anywhere in Africa or South America, and especially France.

Now, before people dog my throat, here's why, the United States constantly gets compassion for beating immigrants and doing racist things. Here, if you act racist, everybody knows about it, here it's a very real thing, people watch out for it, people expect it, people know it's here.

Racism, and prejudice in general is something all humans are equally capable of, no matter where they're born, if the circumstances give them a reason to have prejudice without understanding to core cause of the problem. (Example: In the US many people complain about immigrants coming from Mexico and other palces in South America, but don't even begin to comprehend why they left, because they had absolutely no options in the country they came from. The same thing is going on with Pacific Islanders and New Zealand, and white New Zealanders give them the exact same racism.)

So, here's my point, many people think of France as being all tolerant and such, but once the riots broke out their little secret they broomed under the carpet was revealed, their just as guilty of economic racism as the US. At least here, it's well known, people already got the crap beat out of them before, and knew the story.
