Oh no! *Runs away and hides for three weeks until he's 20* Hey, wait, I know Kung Fu! To stay on topic: I also like riding bikes, as a fact I'm going out on a trip this summer of a total of 1140km. That's going to be fun

QUOTE(Ibis @ Jun 7 2006, 09:42 AM) Wow, Bofra - sounds fun. I like bicycle riding too, I forgot that. I have no earthly idea what kilometers are, how long I mean; but Cain & I used to ride our bicycles about 10 miles a day when we really rode them everywhere. 1 mile = round about 1,6 kilometers. Oh, and my favourite sport is basket ball and (what's it called? Like tennis but with the feathered ball?)

1140 km is around 708 miles (1 km is 0,6 miles, not 10km = 0,6miles)
And by the way, Badmitten? Don't you mean Badminton? Or is Badmitten another word for it?

QUOTE(Ibis @ Jun 7 2006, 10:02 AM) We always called it badmitten in our neighborhood. I also love swimming. I just do it now in our pool for fun but I used to be on the high school swim team. Cool Ibis, swimming skills kinda run in my family... my father is a great swimmer, he says I'm very good too even thought I've never joined a team but I swim as often as I can. Good exercise and free diving is cool since I can actually hold my breath very long My cousin is a very good swimmer, she's been a lot of places in Europe etc. in swimming competitions

QUOTE(Dantrag @ Jun 7 2006, 04:21 PM) My favorite to watch; Hockey. (GO CANES!) Go Oilers! Seriously, though, I just want to see some good hockey. In spite of my Canadian roots, I really don't care who wins (I would prefer if the team that plays better hockey would actually win).

Gah, how can you like hockey?! You can barely see the black thingey they score with and all you see is a bunch of adrenaline-pumped dudes at the edge of starting to fight.. No, seriously, I never understood hockey, can't bear to see a whole match as I just think they look so childlish fighting and getting pissed over a little push.. I bet nothing hurts in that outfit so why get so angry? Nay, football it is .

But in Football you don't carry a big wooden stick.
Still, I don't like sport that involves padding. American Football (and I can say this because I've played it) is wussy compared to Rugby and Aussie Rules. You don't NEED all the pads and crap - it's like walking around as a tank. Basically the line of scrimmage is exactly the same as a contested scrum, and a catch can be the same as...well, a catch.
American Football is like watered down Rugby. And whilst I'm sure some people like wussy games (nothing wrong with it, in fact I'm not so much one on psychosports myself) I just get peeved when people go on about how tough it is, as though it's some merit badge to be a lobotomised and overwieght man that only plays defence or offence and feels the need to wear a helmet and pads.
Also what is it with American sports and ad breaks? A 60 minute game lasts 5 hours once you've had your bursts of advertisement whilst they...I don't know, walk around doing nothing between plays. It's not a really good spectator sport - it's like playing a PC game that pauses itself every five seconds.

That's where you're terribly wrong. American FootballCompare to..... RugbyNotice the first tackle. That's a STANDARD tackle in American football; something that repeats itself almost every single play. Yet the announcer calls it the biggest hit of the season. Hands down, American Football is much more violent than rugby.

Hands down, American Football is much more violent than rugby. Pretty much because those who play American Football nearly has armour, while those who play Rugby doesn't. It's a line on Rugby which you can't really cross when you tackle since they don't wear a whole lot of equipment as those in American Football do...

I never understood why they call it "American Football". You barely see anyone kick that egg. Plus it's much closer to Rugby than to what is called Football in Europe, thus they should have called it "American Rugby". I've played both for a very little while when we tried out a number of different sports in school, and I like the throwing of the egg and stuff, but looking at those vids and hearing from a number of people who've played Rugby in their spare time I don't think it's something I'd wanna do. When it comes to playing, my favs have always been Football (Soccer in the US) and Badminton. We always used to play Football during breaks in school, even if it was only a 10 minute break. There was always time for a quick game. I usually played defense or goalkeeper. I think I was ok, unless we had to use tennis balls instead of regular footballs, then I had real trouble catching that thing When it comes to watching, it's Football, too (yes, still talking about Soccer). For a while, I also watched Sumo regularily. It's really kind of amazing, and I don't use that word lightly. You get to see wrestlers like Musashimaru - weighing in at 440 pounds - graciously jump out of their attacking opponents way like a professional ballerina 1/4th their weight. That alone is pretty amazing. Sumo isn't just about fat man bumping each others. There's a surprising amount of skill involved, not to mention enormous strength and willpower. The techniques used by Sumo wrestlers are very close to that used in Judo. There's throws and special grabs and such things. BTW, it's a great sport for those with a short span of attention: the fights are usually over in significantly less than 30 seconds. Of course, right now all I can think of is the Worldcup. Tomorrow's the first day of this biggest sporting event of the world. Can't wait!
