On Thursday, we had to take one of our dogs on that last trip to the vet. He had gotten to the point that his rear legs did not function properly, and he was falling a lot. It is always a hard choice, but this time it was harder, because neither of us had ever really "bonded" with this dog. He had belonged to my stepson, and, through a bunch of circumstances I won't get into, he ended up dumped on us. And we resented it. It was not the fault of the dog- but he ended up belonging to no one. We were not cruel to him- he was fed and had exercise and a large fenced yard... But he did not have companionship....

So, in the end, we had to do the last hard thing, the final kindness we owe to our pets, and the guilt made it even harder. So, even though this does not speak well of me, it is true. And it is a thing that I must process and accept as part of myself. And I hope that I am wise enough to learn the lesson that it teaches.

I'm sorry Treydog sad.gif Not really sure what to say about it... I guess we all know what it feels like from when we've lost pets though. It wasn't your fault that you didn't 'bond' with the dog though. And you took care of him and gave him a decent standard of life. I guess for this you've just got to wait it out. Time is a great healer as they say (God that is so horribly cliche)

I still miss my dog. If it wasn't for the cancereous tumor he'd have lasted at least another 4/5 years (he was 8) since he was in such great shape.

So sorry to hear that Treydog, but like Ramirez said - you gave the dog a comfortable home. We had a dog that we bonded with so much that we both still dream about him occassionally and I use his name on some sites as passwords. Still have his dogtag.

We had to give him away when we moved to a good home - but it is never easy to part with your pets. Unfortunately we outlive most of them, so sometimes as you've said - it is a final kindness, rather than letting them suffer.

My last dog died at 14, and like Ibis I use his name for family passwords, as in users for the entire family.

He was a chiller.

Ive got a 16 year old dog, two years ago the vet said we were counting days.
Joke is she'll live forever, but each day means she is closer to death, and she's to the point to where she can die any second of any day.

Oh treydog! My heart bleeds for you! I know how it feels, I was the one who had to put my first alsatian to sleep by going to the vet....I still remember the utmost pain to walk out that door with an empty leash in my hand......brrrr

Then again I was the one who had to go to the vet with my first cat when he got cancer......that time I walked out the door with a wooden box....containing the dead cat, because I wanted to bury him in our garden...which I also did.

So My thought are with you treydog, and I can easily understand that it´s worse just because the dog in question not really belonged to your family..... sad.gif

This is the Happy Kitten Police. Desist from any further attempts to be sad. Look at the kitten. If your mood does not improve, you will be arrested and your feet will be licked by attack kittens until you give in!

So anyway, all my dog had was his mother, but one day poachers shot his mother, and my poor little man couldn't understand why his mother wouldn't wake up from her nap.

Must... resist... cute... kitten...

My hamster was paralyzed from the waste down--

Must... resists!!!!

Agh... damn things like hypnosis.

About time, Milanocrates, about time. You waited for it long enough. So, how fast is it anyway? Is it stable? Can you be on IRC 24/7 now?

*Mil sobers up, finally* aw, crudmonkeys sad.gif Obviously, it's not stable, since I am not using it from 11:00 CET. Apparently, it's not my ISP's fault - the whole national structure (read: DAMN TELEKOM SRBIJA) in Nis City is fudged up, so no one has Broadband - at the momment. But such things happen... however, I am resilient enough - after all, with all the crap I've endured lately, this is a walk in the park, really.
The important thing is, the BB is OPERATIONAL in the long run and that means I'll be able to download music, programs, stuff... biggrin.gif Watch out, POSER, here comes Bretonian Drunkard Police !!

p.s.: Heh, good thing I didn't decide to do THIS... If I've learned one thing from playing MW (well, I learned many things from it, btw) it's that you ALWAYS have to own a replacement weapon in store (hence, 56k modem survives my wrath biggrin.gif)
