I find the following interesting. Did you know that the Nords that were on Earth lived in Northern Europe? And, Tamriel reminds me of Europe (for the absence of katanas and dai-katanas except for the Akaviri ones), and the only unmodded katanas that are in-game are Akaviri. Akavir reminds me of Asia, by the way. So, anyway, Nords on Earth lived in Norther Europe. And Nords on Nirn live in Northern Tamriel, other wise known as Skyrim. So, I've gathered the following:
Tamriel = Europe
Nords on Earth = Nords on Nirn
Yes, I was very bored that day driving to the mall.
So, we all know now what the equivilant of Nords are that were on Earth.

QUOTE(NickoHead @ Aug 13 2006, 12:26 PM) Tamriel reminds you of Europe? Huh? The deadly swamps of Black Marsh remind you of Europe? The vast deserts of Hammerfell remind you of Europe? The unpleasant, ash-covered island of Vvardenfell reminds you of Europe? I’m guessing you meant Cyrodiil. Ok: I'm pretty sure Europe has lizards. Doesn't Isreal have deserts? And, aren't deserts unpleasant to be in? No, I meant ALL of it. You see, I think High Rock has alot of vegetation (it doesn't say in the pocket guide you get w/ the collector's eddition), so, yeah, and Valenwood, yeah, and Elsweyr, yeah(?/.) Abu has hit the nail on the head here. Atmora, the land that the Nedes invaded Skyrim from (their descendants became the Nords and Imperials) was to the cold North of Tamriel, almost like the Iceland or Scandinavia in our world. The Mers (Elves) on the other hand, came much earlier from an unfindable continent to the South of the Summerset Isles called Aldmeris - very remeniscent of Atlantis, actuallly. The Almer, the eldest elven race spread throughout Tamriel until the Nedic invasion pushed them back from Skyrim, High Rock (where Aldmeric slaves and Nedics interbred to create the Bretons ... or MenMer as the Nords & Imperials used to call them.) If you look at Europe from the British Isles down to the Mediterrean Rim including North Africa ... it does have the variety similar to Tamriels mountains, marshes, deserts, jungles, towns, cities, villages, caves, tombs, etc. .... AND --- this is my own theory -------> the continent of Akivar is very similar to me to Africa. It is to the East of Tamriel and has legendary bizarre creature people. The humanoid Akivaris were wiped out by the SnakePeople. Akavaris have been known to invade Tamriel in the distant past ... doesn't really always specify which Akivar Race. So, my theory is that the Argonians of Black Marsh are descendants of Aldmer and invading Akivari SnakePeople and our beloved Khajiits of Elsweyr (also to the Eastern side of Tamriel) are the mixture of Mer and Akavir TigerDragon bloodlines. Bizarre theory I know, but it is possible and would make sense ... geographically speaking. Here's a map of my studies from the Imperial Library About this: Thanks for letting me share my studies ..

Tamriel = Europe is a massive oversimplicfaction. You'd have to ignore the fact that Morrowind not only has deserts made of ash but also a massive volcano, has no horses and most of the fauna consists of giant insects and reptiles. And the fact that Blackmarsh is populated by sentient lizardfolk, along with a variety of nasty beasties such a swamp levithan (more GIANT lizards, yay!) flies that are like airborn pirannas, etcs. And the fact that Elseweyr is partially desert, partially jungle, and populated with a race that varies from elf-like to looking like a Feline the size of a SUV. And the fact that Valenwood has massive trees, and is populated by cannibalistic elves, who refuse to use wood from Valenwood in the construction of anything even a bow, etc. AND the fact that Skyrim is really mountainous, the throat of the world and all that jazz. Um. Yeah. Welcome to Europe. Don't step on the grey skinned elf's pet bug, watch out for the elf gnawing on your ankle and try not to wake the old Nord up unless you want to be turned into a bloody mist when he speaks. If you want Europe. HIGH ROCK is Europe. Why? Well, Breton is a word mean british or britain or something like that, IIRC. The Kingdoms there fight incessantly (like Europe used to - Especially Daggerfall and Wayrest who have a rivallry resembling that of Britian and France) the scenery is all european, etc. High Rock and its' inhabitants are your generic european place/peoples.

Cyrodil seems quite european as well, at least in medaevil times. With woods, lakes, a few mountains, warm coastal areas, just some of the meshing with bordering nations kinda change it to less european.

It strikes me as european in some places and roman in others (Namely the IC). But, that's always how the Imperials have been. They hung out in Medieval style castles in Morrowind whilst dressing in a distinctly roman/greek set of armor, and having names of that nature.

Ummm... yup, European! Rome is in Europe, genius! And Aki: Are you forgetting about Pompei? VOLCANOES ARE IN EUROPE! Forests and deserts don't have to be in the same place. I SAID "AREN'T THERE LIZARDS IN EUROPE? IN FAIRY TAILES, THERE ARE STUFF LIKE ELVES, GIANT KITTIES, AND WHATEVER ELSE YOU MENTIONED IF YOU DID BECAUSE I'M TO LAZY TO PRESS BACKSPACE (I intended for caps lock to be on). QUOTE(The Metal Mallet @ Aug 26 2006, 05:59 PM) I think what they mean by Roman is the architecture. Which I would say is true. The Imperial Capital seems very Roman to me. While other areas are of different European architecture.
Oh, well in that case, I kinda get... oh, no, I get it fully.

The point still being that Rome is in Europe. There are similarities and there are fantasy differences. Let us hope that some day we can see Akivar and compare it with China/Far East & will see Admeris and can compare it to our tales of Atlantis *and the Redguards home island for that matter* and will someday see Atmora and see if it is more like Iceland/Antartica. Hopefully we shall see,,,,,,,,,,,

Unfortunately, Bethesda messed up on Cyrodiil's look. It should have been equatorial rainforest, yet instead they went along with the typical medieval fantasy setting. The climate of an entire province doesn’t simply change within a few years. What’s worse is that the original concept of Cyrodiil sounded a lot more interesting.
