Everything i've heard about the books says they're basically poor quality ripoffs of the work of people like Tolkein, so i never bothered to read them, and will also not bother to get a game based on them.

QUOTE(Wurlon @ Aug 25 2006, 10:03 PM) It was so boring, and everything was just like every other fantasy out there. It does a very bad job at being a cookie-cutter fantasy "novel", too. QUOTE I was also agitated to see the name Eragon, which is so close to Tolkien's names... coughAragorncough Me too. It was a "WTF?" moment. My mother got it for me because I like dragons. I managed to read it twice and I realized just how crappy of a book it was.

I don't know.... I've read it once, and I didn't think it was bad. Or did you write a better book(s) when you were fifteen? (I think I'm smelling the ugly scent of jealousy here ) And anyway, almost all fantasy books are a rip-offs of another fantasy book. (Dwarves, elves, dragons, magic, gnomes, etc., remember?)

QUOTE And anyway, almost all fantasy books are a rip-offs of another fantasy book. Even the Dark Tower series by Stephen King is a rip-off of other fantasy books? I mean, as far as the Dark Tower series goes, it's not like other fantasy books. QUOTE Or did you write a better book(s) when you were fifteen? I don't mean to sound arrogant, but when I was fifteen I could write much better than that, and that was only a year ago. QUOTE I liked eragon and eldest a lot, it was not a tolkein rip off because he added a lot more detail to things. I really... don't see any logic in that argument.

The only reason his book got published in the first place is because his parents paid big bucks to have it published.

Well, wether it is good or bad, it does seem to be making money. I've just read a short explanation of the thing. Sounds like way too many 'mysterious' characters, 'supreme objects' and stuff like that showing up at convenient times for my taste. Then again, I've fallen victim to that mistake myself and I'm 16 which is not that much of a difference. I won't say anything about the writing cause I haven't read the book yet. So I won't claim to be better, though I do claim to be a not a too bad writer. If only I ever managed to finish my original work.

Yea, I don't think Fan Fiction is often searched out by publishers. Too bad, I think mine's quite good (though it could do a bit of editing some day once it's done). Mmmmm ego. I've noticed this book around but decided against reading it, heck, I couldn't even continue the Harry Potter series after Goblet of Fire. I became interested in other authors, and they had huge series that I wanted to finish that eventually I abandoned Potter. Maybe once I'm satisfied with other books I might get back to it.
