Just a quick wish that all of our European community members have weathered the storms safely. Sounds like some places (Germany, Czech Republic, etc.) got hit pretty hard.

More mundane news- taught my new English class last night for the first time. It looks to be fun- persuasive writing (English 1010) at a community college. It's a 60 mile drive each way- but only once a week, so that isn't too terrible. Good class size- 13 students, with some diversity in ages.

Storms in Europe? Yes, my best wishes go out to friends on the opposite end of the Atlantic.

I resume teaching English again on Monday, English/Expository Writing 101 at the University. My students are mostly freshmen (18, 19, 20 years old) but a few have taken very different paths to my classroom. Or at least that's how it was last semester.

In other news, I just got back in town from a camping trip in the Mission Mountains Wilderness. It was a great experience. I hadn't camped out in such deep snow before; we dug out a kitchen with walls more than four or even five feet high but still didn't reach solid ground. The difference in snow between just 2000 feet of elevation from valley bottom to our campsite was quite remarkable.

Personally, the storm wasn't that bad for me. Sure, I was soaked when I arrived at school and my shoes literally felt as if I'd dumped them in a swimming pool. That's not to say we didn't suffer damage. A building crane fell on a building, a train crashed into a fallen tree (fortunately, the machinist was only lightly wounded. I don't know about that flat though.) Estimates in Limburg (the province I live in.) is 12 million € in damage. For the whole Netherlands, 160 million €. I don't know if that's a lot or not. Well, for a single person to pay it would be a lot I suppose, but for a whole country? Still a lot, I think judging by our population which hovers around 16-17 million if I'm correct.

The wind was a nuisance when I had it blowing into my face but I managed. My speed was down to less than a quarter of my usual but at least I wasn't going backwards. Leaving school, I had a nice part of wind in the rear. This time I actually had to use the brakes often just to keep my speed down. biggrin.gif Half of my trip to and from school has wind from the side though, which is the worst situation in my case. I got blown into the grass next to the cycling path at least a dozen times and nearly fell over just as often. I heard that a cyclist got blown onto the road by the wind and got hit by a car. So I got lucky in the end.

I'm on holiday for another month, about 10 days ago I enrolled for my second year of university but I have now worked out that I need to drop 2 papers to be back where I should be, I don't need to drop them but I don't need to take them either, which is annoying since I want to take more papers! I'm worried that I'm going to be one of those people who spends 10 years at university to get a bunch of degrees or worse, a PHD! I don't think I could stick with one subject long enough to get a PHD, but what I want to do at the moment is a BA/BSc and a graduate certificate in Antartic studies.

Just want you to know it is now quite ok in Sweden. We had a storm, named Per, which deprived quite a lot of ppl of their electricity and telephone-lines. Even the cellphones were out! But now most ppl hsave electricity, so they can take their showers and don´t have to go to work stinking like......hmmm Then ladt week when the phones were out it was such a nice calm time at work..no phone calls nothing hehe..

Today we had a small amount of snow, but now it´s raining away again..gahhhh!

Anyway....besides that ...life rocks!!!! tongue.gif

Spare a cup of warm sludge for the lowly?...

Wish I was cheery as you, Minkey tongue.gif Glad to hear the storms stopped tho. We had just the opposite weather these 2 days - 20 degrees and sunny weather O_o summertime in January... sadly, I was at home, crushing undead scum for the Sanitation Department of Neverwinter. Needless to say, ending left me a bit bitter, because I was expecting a bit better story [and what the heck happened to Aribeth? They haven't even muttered a word about her in the end of the MQ... damned f00s.

I am going to elections tommorow indifferent.gif would rather sleep trough the entire damn day, since all options are more or less crooked, but I'll go with the least evil, I guess [party that has least corrupt members... I reckon it's these people].

I was also crushing undead scum for the Sanitation Department of Neverwinter, I killed the biggest undead scum of all, the King of shadows and was very disappointed with the end, Neverwinter nights 2 is good till chapter 3 where rather than throwing hard stuff at you, the game itself cheats by isolating your character in a game based around a team involvements and by stopping resting for an entire dungeon; then it has the easiest fight at the end followed by the worst ending sequence. It was a fairly good game for the first 2 chapters, but the game doesn't last very long.

Good news, my daughter is now in Berlin, has got herself a nice room to stay in and started her studies of the German language! So I won´t see her until june now! But that´s normal...young ppl must get away and see and learn other countries and things!

I'm also learning a foreign langauge, though it's not German. I'm enrolled in the Spanish course for my school, the class is alright. My teacher is a former translator for the military, spoke German, Spanish and Vietnamese (sp.)

He's only fluent in Spanish since he hasn't spoken the other two for a long time. We get along pretty well (I'm among the few who haven't gotten detention in his class). Uds. hablan espanol?

PS: I wish my keyboard had spanish symbols sad.gif

Si, yo hablo español. Pero mi español es pobrismo ahora porque yo no lo estudie para tres anos.

Ahem. Yes, it would be nice to type spanish (or any foreign language) effectively on a web browser. It's possible, I'm sure, but I don't have whatever plug-ins might be needed.

Edit: Mozilla does have foreign language dictionaries (for spell check) available for download, however. That's how I got the ~ to appear properly above the 'n' in espanol above.

For me it didn't get that interesting before the later part of act 1 and it got tedious somewhere before halfway through act 3. At least I was lucky enough not to run into a single noticeable bug and the game ran just fine. Apparently not everyone has had a similar experience with the game. Still, the multiplayer part of it hasn't really sprung to life yet, what with the Dungeon Master client crashes, PWC file downloads and load times.

It's nice to see how active and responsive the Obsidian people are over at their official forums and if they keep up the pace at which they've been patching the game it shouldn't be long before more people start playing on the Persistent Worlds that are appearing or will appear. Give it a few months and there should be at least a few good PWs to choose from. Until then, there's always the first NWN.

And Re:Resting in the final dungeon, it is possible. There's just something like a 50% chance that enemies will spawn when you do so.

I heard that but I looked up the cheat for god mode then rested 30 times and didn't succeed once.

I liked the fort alot, I had already sold most of the locations of ore before getting the smiths so I couldn't upgrade weapons/armour fully though, which is silly. Unfortunatly I couldn't go back the fort and upgrade it further after finishing the main quest sad.gif

Mhmmm. Mr. R, the thing that always bugged me during NWN1 singleplayer [which I am about to do AGAIN, this time as a Sorcerer O_o] was the complete lack of enemy respawn in all areas... I have played the entire game on D&D hardcore setting, but it's still a bit easy for a Fighter, once you get lots of shiny toys and panzer to keep you warm; but is there a way to make enemies respawn, and much quicker?

BTW, it's summertime here blink.gif I am walking in a t-shirt around house and looking at blue skies in awe. And, I've voted. And had 2 coffees already.

Gah....here it´s snowing for a bit and a cold wind is blowing from the sea...but ok it´s fair enough...

Summer in Serbia...hmmm I feel like going there, not so much for the summer but for a chance to meet Mil! tongue.gif

The Keep brought an interesting touch to the game. Its existence ensured that I never got that rich, since most of my gold was spent on all the upgrades. I only wish it would have been a bit more fleshed out, with a few more choices when it comes to what could be done with all the buildings and space.

I'm sure it would be more than possible with the Toolset but I don't know if there would be any point to it. That would mean it'd be possible to reach high levels early on, resulting in the later battles becoming even easier. This could work just fine, but then I'd prefer having a system where doing quests is the main source for experience and the act of killing enemies gives a minimal or at least low gain of experience points. But as for how to make enemies respawn or increasing their respawn rate, I'm not really sure about where exactly you should look.

I'm getting tired of this. I've reported three threads today for what I believe to be linking to sexual content. (at least the link sounds like it.). I sure hope this place won't be drowned in spam. I feel sorry for the moderators who have to deal with it.

On another note, the storm has passed here though the wind seems to have turned 180 degrees now. We also had some snow today! biggrin.gif Unfortunately, so little that it was gone within a second on landing. The snowflocks were tiny as well. Oh well, maybe we'll have snow of higher quality and quantity later.

In bad news, physical education has taken a bad turn. We're playing football now. (ya know, soccer in America.) Problem is, we have a couple of show-offs who've played football in a club since before they could walk. These guys are simply obsessed with kicking the ball as hard as possible. I'm not playing football with them, I'm running away from the ball because I'll literally break my bones if that thing hits. Dodging balls for two hours, my nerves are wrecked. wacko.gif

Ouch, I feel sorry for ya. Fortunately here in North American, there isn't that many kids super good at soccer here that I feel frightened of getting smoked by the ball. Plus, I haven't played soccer in quite a while.

I've also noticed these likely naughtly links that have been surfacing around here, and I have reported one that I've run across so far. I know they'll be taken care of, but I sure the Moderators would be annoyed by such stuff.

This forum is meant for basically all ages, so content such as those links shouldn't be allowed. Some people just have to ruin our nice, peaceful place on the web with crap.

First time I played football (Australian Rules Football) I got taken out with a high tackle and broke my nose kvright.gif Kinda got put off by any sport after that. Now I just exercise my fingers playing Gears of War and Oblivion smile.gif

In addition, nice little coffee shop here. Nice coffee, though I could have a jam filled donout to go along with it... smile.gif
