I know religion is banned from this thread but this is helping about religion not debating or pushing religion. QUOTE(Toroabok @ Jul 16 2007, 03:31 AM) I was actually thinking of looking into Buddhism... I don't know where to look, though.

Try google or wikipedia for a background, both are absolutely useless but there are things you will be able to read that you will either like or immediately reject and so you might get onto some more specific denominations which will give you a place to go in your city and more specific/good information on the internet. Otherwise you could just go to your local buddhist centres, most denominations have their own like churchs but there is usually atleast 1 nondenominational one per city. The 2 main seperations of Buddhism are Mahayana which means "greater vehicle" and Theravada which means "lesser vehicle" but is often called traditional Buddhism because lesser vehicle is slightly offensive. In traditional Buddhism you are reincarnated into a male who will become a monk and become a Bodhistava who will reincarnate to become a Buddha then reach nirvana, so only men can be monks and training in attaining nirvana is reserved to the monks; woman must first be reincarnated as men. Mahayana on the otherhand proposes that anyone can attain enlightment and definitions of nirvana and reincarnation usually varies between them, usually allowing anyone to become monks and learn all their secrets, like my denomination which leaves belief of the afterlife up to the personal views of the members. Practices of Buddhism usually varies, with different types of "prayer", mediation and study existing, zen practices sitting mediation along with mediation while participating in a variety of actions, like painting, flower arranging, swordsmanship and archery; once proper mediation technique is learnt it is well documented that physical ability increases dramatically as zen mediation will unlock your ability to use your subconscience for practical purposes. My denomination practices mediation through outloud chanting, which is repeating a short saying over and over again, and will also chant a portion of Buddhist teachings; scientifically chanting will relieve stress and focus your mind. There is also Vajrayana which is centred around practices rather than study, modern tantric is an example of one, they practice chanting, sitting mediation and moving mediation (yes, including tantric sex but thats for experianced people and is a small optional portion of the denomination). Both men and woman are allowed to become monks but many secrets are reserved for the devote. This post has been edited by Pisces: Jul 16 2007, 07:59 AM

Yeah, I'm into Vajrayana, completely because A. it's the only sect in my tiny lil town and B. I'm an avid snowboarder and "snowboarding to nirvana" turned me onto the techniques. The practices and traditions, in my opinion, though important to understand are no more truthful than those of any other religion. I want to turn every boring thing I have to do (like community service) into a mindful practice and meditate for longer periods of the day so I can become better at everything I do and so maybe eventually I can become enlightened, I'm over worship, tradition and ritual unless it serves practical purpose.
And yeah nothing I said in my last post was meant to generate any arguments, I don't think discussion should be banned just as long as we all stay civil and accept each other's beliefs.
I got a question for all you advisors out there, though. I fell in love with my roommate, like think of love as the sun, and my self as a comet that was just mindin its own business being a swinger when it got pulled into this solar system for good. I can't concentrate, she pops into my head all the time, I count the hours until I know I can see her again, I feel like I want to just grab onto her and never let go. But she's 4 years older than me, and she shows it in maturity. Apart from the fact that her adult life is getting into full swing and just a year ago I still had to be home by midnight, we're a match made in heaven. We love the same stuff and I feel like we can hang out for weeks straight and never get sick of each other. My other two roommates have both said we should date (jokingly) and it's just getting to me. I can't stand being away from her, I can't stand being with her knowing I just want to have sex with her. I know she doesn't want a boyfriend, and I definitely don't have a chance even if she did. I mean, I can make her laugh but a guy needs more than that to get a girl 4 years older than he is. Should I just try to get over her?

A man once asked the Buddha, "How does one escape the heat of the summer sun?"
And the Buddha replied, "Why not try crawling into the blazing furnace?"

QUOTE(Kell-Reevor @ Jul 16 2007, 06:45 PM) Hello again for everyone that remembers me.
If you recall I simply disappeared a while back. No real reason, I just sorta stopped posting. Well I've done a lot of growing up since then, and I think it's time for a comeback.
So, hello again to all. BTW, is there a way I can change my forum name?
Heey, welcome back! Nice to see you again... Oh and ask an Admin, to change your forum-name I mean! Anyway I´m back from Italy now..it has been a great vacation, lots of sun, good food and excellent wines...the only thing that bothers me is that I have to go to work tomorrow!

QUOTE(jack cloudy @ Jul 16 2007, 05:27 PM) Dang, that's longer than my average school-day. Don't forget the coffee.
Oh, and I won't be on for three weeks starting this saturday. The folks want to go on vacation and I'll be going with them. *cheers* Three weeks sitting in a caravan looking at the rain outside with nothing to do. Oh, the joy.
Bring a notebook, write down plot ideas for stories or something.
