Most excellent Dantrag, I use a bit of fuzz metal dist. on my guitar, so it isn't so clean... still sounds better than any other tab i've seen, that's prolly how brendan played it.
Thrash metal...hmmm, as in old LOG or Mastodon, or even Mudvayne?

Thrash metal is stuff like Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax, Slayer, Exodus, Kreator, Onslaught, etc. I'd say LOG and Mastodon have some thrashy elements to their songs though. Mudvayne, not so much...

And now for this weekend's music list while I work. I decided to go with some emotional, depressing, doom(y) bands. It totally clashes with how the weather is outside, but I really wanted an excuse to play some Daylight Dies (not the Killswitch Engage album; there's actually a banded named "Daylight Dies"):
Daylight Dies - Dismantling Devotion The River - Drawing Down the Sun Rapture - Futile Rapture - Silent Stage Funeral - From These Wounds Fall of the Idols - Womb of the Earth Katatonia - The Great Cold Distance Swallow the Sun - Hope
I've decided on a new formula to introduce my CD purchases. Since I'm going to write about all my actual 2007 CDs at my ranking list at the end of the year, I'm probably gonna hold off talking about them until then from now on so as to not repeat myself. From now on, I'll probably only talk about CDs that I bought this year, but actually were originally released in the past.
But, I talk about any of those today. Perhaps latter this week...

Well since last weekend's list consisted of "downer" material, I decided to play some of my more "fun"/old school type metal albums for the most part. Here's da list:
Bible of the Devil - The Diabolic Procession Pharaoh - The Longest Night Slough Feg - Atavism Slough Feg - Hardworlder Judas Priest - Sad Wings of Destiny Judas Priest - Sin After Sin Judas Priest - Stained Class Megadeth - Rust In Peace Dio - Holy Diver Clutch - From Beale Street to Oblivion
Time to talk about a few CDs:
Bible of the Devil - The Diabolic Procession
Bible of the Devil play a brand of guitar driven metal similiar to that found during the New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM), much like bands like Iron Maiden and Diamondhead. To add a bit of a twist to their own style, the vocals are a bit more modern sounding (it sorta sounds like if Lemmy, the singer of Motorhead, was punched in the nuts, basically higher pitch, somewhat nasally tone of "singing"; it kinda makes the first song kinda crappy but you get used to it as the album progresses). There are also elements of American Southern Rock in some of the more slower tracks which I enjoyed really well. Basically if you like blazing guitar oriented metal, but with plenty of focus on melody as well, this release should be enjoyable. Top songs would be "Heinous Corpus", "The Elusive Miracle", and "Orphans of Doom".
Slough Feg - Atavism
Slough Feg are another band like Bible of the Devil in that they play NWOBHM style music, but with their own twist to it. A lot of the lyrical material of the songs on this release seem to fit more in folk music. With this release, Slough Feg keep their songs quite short (and the spacing between is short enough to make me think I'm listening to one song, but it turned out to be two). There's also quite a few instrumentals tossed into the mix as well, most of which sound heavier than the material when there is singing. Vocally, Slough Feg are a bit more likable since Mike Scalzi has a unique but clean and fitting voice for the music. He doesn't display much range, but he still proves to be convincing and enjoyable. Top songs would be "I Will Kill/You Will Die" (ironically, it is perhaps the most upbeat sounding song on the disk), "Starport Blues" (it's the fun kind of blues though, really catchy), and "Hiberno-Latin Invasion". Definitely a solid band.

Listening to "Always Outsiders, Never Outdone: Prodigy Remixed" and other PRODIGY remixes. it's amazing work, every single remixed song sounds awesome and really brutal at times. Helps me get up in the morning [11:00 AM] and sharpens my mental fangs.

QUOTE(canis216 @ Aug 21 2007, 12:14 AM) I'm still on a binge of Black Keys listening. My god what an awesome band. Anybody else here listen to these guys at all? If you're at all into blues-rock you've got to check them out. Edit: Check 'em out indeedAnd some moreHey, that stuff ain't too bad! It's actually quite rockin' and I certainly don't mind getting my faced rocked. What that band needs though is some drum fills. Right now the guitarwork is has all the flashiness, that flashiness needs to be spread around.

And on the Eigth (sp? who cares) day, God created Rock! And nothing else...
Speaking of, my "Straight Edge" Christian buddies who cuss like sailors say that As I Lay Dying is Christian, so I whip up the wikipedia, lo and behold, Christian. Some heavy stuff, I like.
Notice: I am not saying Christian or Muslim or Jewish or Whatever music is bad, it is just the fact that people have to proclaim it, and some concerned parents don't like their kids to be wrongly influenced. I don't dip my chip in the salsa of Political Correctness.

QUOTE(Ibis @ Aug 22 2007, 01:45 AM) Wow, Milanius .. I read your post too fast and I thought you said you wake up at 11 a.m. and sharpen your metal fangs! Was very startling and gave me a whole new idea of you ... lolol. nah, dear, they're MENTAL. When I need to sharpen my REAL fangs, however, I listen to Max Cavalera... like right now SOULFLY - Dark Ages & Prophecy LP'sWhat makes it so neat is that Max and his crew actually went to Serbia, Russia, Turkey and few other countries, soaked up the sounds and then cooperated with various hard-core/metal performers to create his own unique brand of sound, noise, screams and emotion. I that hairy fatso more and more each day. edit: The opening moments of intro & song on Dark Ages LP [Dark ages/Babylon] are somewhat like a rapid burst and riff bombardment combined, followed by slow, mutilating sound and lyrics that reflect on how Cavalera views today's state of world and its leaders. No need for me to translate who/what 'babylon' is, really. This post has been edited by milanius: Aug 23 2007, 01:39 AM
