I've tried Fallout 3. It installs fine, starts fine but the moment I actually try to you know...start a new game, it crashes halfway through the loading. I guess my system is just a tad too old for current gen stuff. That said, I've been playing Mechwarrior 4 recently. In fact, I just finished the campaign a couple of hours ago. Now I love robots but to be honest, the Mechwarrior franchise doesn't seem to be my thing. It's good enough to waste a few hours on when you're bored and really need your GIANT ROBOTS!!! fix, but I just can't help but feel somewhat disapointed every time. The mecha are just too damn clunky and act more like a mobile fortress with a serious lack of firepower, than a hotshot state-of-the-art superweapon of the 31st century. Every time I circlestrafe something for two fricking minutes, I can't help but wish I could use an Armored Core. It would make things so much more enjoyable, not to mention less painfull. But you can't play Armored Core on a pc and I don't have a console anymore so...damn.

QUOTE(Olen @ Feb 6 2009, 11:58 PM) Fallout 3 now and then though I spend very little time playing games, I don't find them very satisfying, though, barring Morrowind, Fallout 3 maybe one of the best single player games I've played.
Same here. I will say that there are plenty of problems with Fallout 3 but it is still my favorite game of the year.

Due to my PC being Foxtrot Unicorn Charlie Kilo I am forced to play old[er] games.
ATM, it's Silent Hill 2 and I am hating every minute of it. I get the feeling 'survival horror' is all about surviving god-awful camera angles and fecal controls, while trying not to mentally beat up game developers who implemented invulnerable bosses in their games.*
*for the record, this is not pure SH hatred; Resident Evil 3: Nemesis also frustrated me to no end because you couldn't do a damn thing to that thing until very end

I've got a week of vacationing and decided to try something entirely different for a change; Fable2. I'd heard a lot about it and was curious to see if it was good or not. After having played it for around 2 days now, I have to say it's pretty fun. Granted I could point out a lot of flaws, like the linear nature of the game, the lack of options to customize your character, the relative simplicity of the quests, puzzles and enemies you face etc. But on the other hand it's surprisingly fun despite all that. It has a good working economy, beautiful surroundings and it's even found a way to make it semi fun to have a family, or at the very least not too much of a burden. So yeah, so far it's been fun , all except for the fact that the xbox360 just now froze up

Yeah Fable 2 isn't too bad, I just wish I'd gotten it used.

QUOTE(The Bean @ Mar 2 2009, 02:34 PM) Seriously Kiln, complete it. When you finish it you unlock the best mode ever.
And the last levels are pretty damn awesome too.
I swear, that machete is blunt, not so it doesn't cut, but to increase the amount of (searing, godawful) pain. (Last level... thing.) QUOTE That said, I've been playing Mechwarrior 4 recently. My feelings about the mech-stomping games is the opposite... MechWarrior 4 is actually my least favorite of the series, feeling way too cartoony, but Mechwarrior 3, is honestly the best giant-fighting robot game I've seen, especially when you edit up a mech that has 14+ killer weapons, and you can watch the locked-on LRMs that you shot at the sky hurtle down onto the suspicious enemy. Armoured Core 4 feels too much like a Japanese anime, where your supposed to just dodge around while flying, and watch missles pointlessly explode around you*. * (Although it does make me nostalgic for the old Gundam game, in which when you have LOCK-MODE off, it really does feel like one of those animes, where they've never heard of Heat-seeking, guided, fire-and-forget, or any combination there of. Honestly, it's the best way I've ever seen to TRY and hit something. ) This post has been edited by Silver: Apr 16 2009, 04:25 AM

I can't argue with that. Mechwarrior 3 felt a lot better than 4, although I do prefer 4's torso-twist that can be controlled by the mouse. But 3 has a better story in my opinion. (although the sudden change from antarctic ice to a fricking volcano near the end is kinda odd.) And it was so much fun to load up the biggest mech you could get with a huge load of ER large lasers and just pop everyone's legs in a furious barrage of coherent light. And then you had to wait for your mech to cool before you could do it all over again. As for Armored Core, a lack of modern consoles means I've only played the very first generation. Now unlike what the vids for Armored Core 4 showed, the first generation features slower mechs with less guns, a much smaller targeting reticule, a very limited energy supply and far more indoors, up close and personal action. This means that dodging is much harder and if you use energy weapons (like I do) you need to carefully ration the amount of shooting and boosting you do because you DON'T want to be stuck walking around on the floor for 30+ seconds, unable to shoot/boost, waiting for your generator to refill the energy bar. For some reason, once emptied completely, it won't let you use any energy untill it has completely refilled. So if that happens, you are going to get hurt. A lot. But that's why I like it. Oh, and what's this old Gundam game you're talking about? I love Gundam and only the fact that it's stupidly expensive to import stuff from Japan has kept me from collecting things related to it. (By the way, radar and the like are said to be scrambled by the Minovsky particles that are thrown out by every single military vehicle, at least in Amuro's universe. So the argument is that they can't use tracking weapons. But, that admittedly shouldn't rule out heat seekers or image recognition.)

I finally got Fallout 3! I love the game, even if I can't play it alone or I'll be terrified out of my mind. Now that I think about it, either way it's the same. My brother and I decided to split up misc quests and the mian quests. I get to do the main quest and he does all the misc quests he can find. I have an easier job finding where I have to go at least. It's still easier for him which kinda sucks but I'm okay with that.

I've got Call of Duty: World at War on right now, trying out the new map pack. People say it's worse than CoD:MW but tbh, I really don't think it is. The campaign is amazing, and nazi zombies is perfect for when you start sucking online and think ah bugar it I'll just go blow up some zombies for quarter of an hour. I've also started playing Heavenly Sword, which is also good, but they've focused more on the cutscenes than on the actual gameplay. One thing that's absolutely incredible is the six axis arrow control with Kai. If they did a game with just her in I'd happily buy three of 'em. What kinda' ruins it is they use english voices for all the characters, with very heavy manchester, birmingham and liverpool accents. Chinese game, use chinese voices. Everyone knows that. Ok ramble over.
