Help on Mage Quest, Vahtacen not workin right Options

I am trying to open the darn stairs thingy to go below, and I cast all 4 spells at it, the first 3 work, but the 4th does not. I have fortify magika from the guy in the church in leyawiin, but it only enhances 'my' magika. Do I have the wrong one? The other 3 spells are casted to a target, but the last one is on me - just seems wrong. Is there a magika enhance on to a target?
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

go to the arcane university. you can make a "fortify magicka on target" spell there. just find the altars of spell-making. they're in one of the buildings behind the entrance gates. i just called mine "door opening fortify magicka" and had it fortify 1 pt. for 1 second on target. hope that helps.

All the spells you need are in a chest by the guy in the corridor. He has a fortify magic on target scroll right there.

Thanks Softwhisper, I will go look and see if I can make one. Deedo; I used that one in the trunk, I just did them out of order and it seemed to be a one shot thing.
