Does anyone think a town portal mod would be useful? (like in diablo games). Obviously not when you can fast travel, but it would be great to have when you're in a cave or something and you need to sell some stuff or just get out quickly.

... no. It's that simple. play Diablo 2 if you want Diablo 2 things, and play TES is you want to play an RPG. End of story.
