Just wondering if anyone regularly played Neverwinter Nights on-line and what server they play on? I just started getting into after having the game for over 2 years. I only have hte original, not the expansions but I should be gettign those pretty soon. Once I do I'll play on http://www.layonaraonline.com, it looks to be a good place to play, lots of MMO qualities.

looks decent. I haven't been playing many video games lately, but I might start up again.

I bought it, played it a few times, and since then (a year or so) it has been on the shelf....Now Morrowind on the other hand.....

Commencing thread resurrection...

Done.

First, the reason for bringing this thread back to life; Fuzzy Knight was kind enough to inform me that Bioware has (finally) released their Infinite Dungeons premium module for NWN. Judging by its description and listed features, it might be exactly what's needed to make me return to the game once again. But more about that later.

I've played NWN occasionally since I bought it some years ago (late 2002/mid 2003) and can honestly say I've had a lot of fun with the game. In the beginning, I sticked to the original campaign of NWN itself and found it to be so and so. The story wasn't perhaps the best you can find and the characters were mediocre or below. Obviously, there are a lot of stereotypes involved and I got a constant feeling of the black&white/good&bad contrast being present. But as with Morrowind/Oblivion, the gameworld that came with the game is merely an example of what the game editor is capable of. The Aurora Toolset (the NWN equivalent of the Construction Set) is something I spent quite a lot of time with after playing through the game itself. Mostly I just fooled around and even after all this time I'd say I've managed to finish about 3 or 4 of the modules I've worked on. And even they were small adventure/town mods. After some time I took a break from the game (a rather long one) and even managed to lose the game CD somewhere.

When the first expansion, Shadows of Undrentide, was released I purchased a package with both the original game and the new part. To be honest, I was a bit disappointed with SoU. Again, the story wasn't all that good and in my opinion not much was added/offered. Because of that my return to the game was rather short. Then came the second expansion, Hordes of the Underdark. The story was much better, there was a whole lot more content and it just seemed like Bioware had put way more effort into HotU.

After the expansions came out I've hardly spent any time at all with the Toolset. The HotU campaign got a run every month or so when I still played the game but most of of my time with NWN was spent online on the Fabled Glory server. No Player vs Player at all (although a PvP arena might be added sometime in the future), almost purely Role-Playing and a good, friendly community was what kept me around for almost a year. I still visit the server every now and then, just to see how it fares and what the older regulars are up to. But enough of that blabbering now.

-----------------------

Moving on to the "actual" point of this post. As I said, Bioware recently released their Infinite Dungeons premium module for NWN. Since it's a premium module it is not free of charge. Usually I don't even bother reading about official mods that have a price anymore because I've found that such mods rarely offer enough for their cost. But this time I'm actually rather curious about this module. In short, it offers a randomly generated multi-level dungeon for a group/single player of any level. Player vs Environment/Monsters is obviously the main focus but the module also has a Player vs Player part for those who are interested. New content seems to include at least new creatures and new music as well.

I'm planning to buy this mod once I get home and give it a spin or two to see just how good it actually is. Based on what I've read it'd be perfect for a small/medium group of players. There was some talk quite a long time ago about organizing a Waiting4Oblivion/Chorrol game of Neverwinter Nights. Unfortunately, it didn't even get any further than being a suggestion.

Now I'm suggesting it again. If anyone here is interested in giving a NWN session together with other forum members a spin do say so. Once we see how many are interested we could work out the details; what server/module, time, character levels and so on. And I don't expect everyone to be ready for pure role-playing. Getting together and having some fun would be the main focus. Once that is achieved we could see what preferences people have.

Anyway, it's still all a suggestion and judging by previous reactions (or the lack of) I don't expect much from this.

I haven't played for ages, that's more like a year.
But there's a new patch out, that I just noticed just now 1.67
Would be quite fun to start again, I've played quite a lot rp online before.
My favorite characters were thief :P and also ranger and druid.

I hope this thread gets something started :)

I tried neverwinter nights. And I love how the game plays. But I couldnt get into it from the enourmous amount of dialogue. I like games that have things they talk about. But the start of the game didnt absorb me enough.

I need to try again soon.

I am not much of a social person anymore, but I do love to roleplay D&D. I played NWN alot when it first came out, but havent played recently. If the group decides to do a RP-oriented adventure I would be interested. Though I do seem to be on a different work/life schedule than many other chorrol members.

Well, since posting this topic I have not bought the expansions and I moved on to Joint Operations: Typhoon Rising. I may go back to it though if there are more forumers playing the vanilla version.
