So, as we all know, to join the Dark Brotherhood you must first kill an innocent person. When you do, it says "Your actions have been observed by forces unknown..." or some such, indicating the Dark Brotherhood now is aware of you. But since the guards always come (at least so far, in my experiences), if you go to jail, will the Dark Brotherhood still approach you? Or do you have to get away for them to take notice? I'm new here and tried searching for this topic but couldn't come up with anything, so I'm sorry if it's a re-post Thanks in advance, ZK

The easiest way to get invited to the Dark Brotherhood is by doing a quest you can get from the grand champion of the Arena guild. After you have done this quest you will have to go through the ranks of the Arena guild and beat the grand champion. Because you have done the quest for him his will to live on is a bit on the low side and this will benefit you won't spoil more than that and the best of it is that it's completely legal no guards chasing you afterwards you even earn a lot of gold

I myself joined really early, like right after the kvatch gate. I "accidentilly" shot a man with an arrow i befriended in there after i got impatient for his death (i couldnt help myself from shooting those scamps) since he seemed to have good loot, and well you get off scat free and with an invitation.

QUOTE(DoomedOne @ Mar 26 2006, 02:30 AM) I, as an honest member of the thieves guild, didn't want to disrespect the Gray Foxes eyes and ears, so I didn't want to kill a begger. I killed some random girl at a stable. I didn't know the beggers had anything to do with Gray Fox at that time... and I don't think they will hold anything against me... I still have to formally "join" though

The guards always come? If you are unable to murder a simple civilian without being caught, you might not be the material wanted by the Night Mother for the Dark Brotherhood.
Increase your sneak and security, find a decent person to kill. It is best to kill a person who is by themself inside a building and use sneak to get a decent first slash. The diffucult part of this is if you aren't strong enough, the person may bash you to little bloody bits and if he is weak he will run for the guards. I forget exactly who I murdered, but I was not arrested or outlawed in any way.
If you get your sneak up high enough, you can get like a 6x damage mulitplier by striking someone while sneaking, if they don't see you that is.
Actually, as I think about it, a good target would probably be a farm somewhere or a weak beggar. But don't kill a beggar if you are in the Theives Guild, as they are guild members...
