For about six years, from 1968 through 1975, the Band was one of the most popular and influential rock groups in the world, their music embraced by critics (and, to a somewhat lesser degree, the public) as seriously as the music of the Beatles and the Rolling Stones. Their albums were analyzed and reviewed as intensely as any records by their one-time employer and sometime mentor Bob Dylan. And for a long time, their personalities were as recognizable individually to the casual music public as the members of the Beatles.
- full article at http://theband.hiof.no/history/band_shortstory.html

Now the reason I like The Band so much is because of they have this old-timey appeal. It feels like they could have come from the 1800's or something. I also like how their music emotes raw feelings, and how their lyrics tell stories.

I am going to list some songs available at the official Band site ( http://theband.hiof.no ) so that people who have not heard them can listen to them and maybe become fans. smile.gif

If you already are a fan post some of your favorite Band songs, or what you like about the Band.

Here are the songs

The Shape I'm In
King Harvest (Has Surely Come)
Don't Do It
Endless Highway
Georgia on my Mind covered at The Last Waltz
Get Up Jake
Rag Mama Rag
The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down
Stagefright
Up On Cripple Creek (Ed Sullivan Performance)
The Weight

So tell me what you think. smile.gif

By the way if you are a first time listener, listen to King Harvest and The Shape I'm In first. smile.gif

Scarecrow and a yellow moon,
and pretty soon a carnival on the edge of town,
King Harvest has surely come.

I'm afraid that The Band isn't very popular in my country, so I can't get more of their songs. sad.gif
Yeah Midnight Oil is quite awesome..... :goodjob:
Yeah, it's funny watching the guy dance biggrin.gif Did you ever notice how a lot of their songs were about the environment and animals and wahtnot? Well, the lead singer is now a politician for Labour (because he reckons the Greens are hypocrites)

As a matter of fact i have noticed about the environmental contents, but what´s really amusing is that the lead singer penetrated the Greens....haha I like that :goodjob:
