Hello all, I've been stuck on the 'A Rat Problem' quest. Basically I'm trying to protect this lady's basement rats from being eaten by mountain lions...

This quest takes place in Anvil and I'm told I need to follow Quill-Weave's nocturnal movements around her neighbour's place, presumably so I can gather damning evidence that she is to blame for encouraging lions into the victim's cellar.

What happens is I follow her round and round, sneaking as quietly and stealthily as possible keeping my distance and all that, but the only thing I found after leaving the mission run for a while was meat had been set outside the neighbour's cellar but try as I might, I could not a) catch Quill-Weave laying it out or b] pick it up and see her set it again or c) wait for her to go back and call lions in or whatever so...

I'm screwed and fed up so if you can help put me out of my misery I'd be grateful for advice!

Thanks and nice forum btw

PS - I searched the forum for answers before posting: forgive me if it's been answered before since I couldn't find anything relevant myself.

You have to catch her while she's planting the meat.

Right. Ah. So, now that the meat's been put down, do I pick it up in the hope of her putting it down again or is it too late?

Thanks. smile.gif

Okay, just completed this quest following your advice. Ta for that.

Picked the meat up, slept at the Fighters Guild till midnight and noticed QW was in position so legged it and even though no meat was down I got the Quest Updated message so all is well.

Thank Christ that's over. Phew. biggrin.gif

I used invisibility spells while following her. Quite handy... smile.gif

I acctually don't think you need to hide from the people you follow... just stay far enough so they don't turn around and "address" you

Yes, you're probably right. The quests should be possible to complete for everyone, as long as you get it offered. I finished that stalking quest in the Imperial City (Thoronir) in the very beginning of my previous game.

I'm on another follow the NPC mission, this time following an apparent 'paranoid schizophrenic'. This is an odd mission and I'm not sure what I'm meant to be doing since the quest isn't being updated in any meaningful way I can tell.

Having scripted quests means you've got to try guess the game designers own logic for how you're going to trigger quest update events. Though there's a lot of leverage for completing missions your own way, at the end of the day there's only one result - mission completed - and that can depend on a bit of luck if you're not thinking the way Bethesda envisaged.

Otherwise it'll either take you forever to get the quest done or you just ask someone here! Cheers again guys. smile.gif

Oh paranoia... yeah just follow the people around for a while, then go do something else till midnight, tell the guy either what you saw (jack squat) or tell him other stuff... its all up to you.
