I wondered about that Starg. I noticed that they used to be called Bethesda Softworks when making Morrowind and for Oblivion they are called Bethesda Gaming Company. Something like that.
*Studios. Yeah, between then and now they almost went bankrupt and were bought by Zenimax, which as I understand it is sort of like a media holding corporation with big time investors backing it. It went from a mom-and-pa kinda small company to become a part of a large media corporation. Well, Zenimax itself doesn't have that much other stuff, but the companies owning it do, I think.
All of that probably explains why their games have become so much more mainstreamed and commercialized. The first few games, especially Daggerfall, were built on high ideals and dreams and elaborate fantasies with probably too little regard for market feasability and target audiences and such. That's why they almost died. Now that chance is negligable, but of course their new found success doesn't come without a price...
MK would probably offer to beat me up again if he was reading this, but I can only repeat that I think Beth sold its soul to save its body.
Being good means getting better.
