Rothan shied away from a beam of purple light which passed his head. What in oblivion? he thought. It struck the hunger he faced and the daedra stopped advancing. Rothan backed away, he had no idea what the magic might do. The hunger's body began to swell and it roared pain. Rothan backed away further, this was powerful and nasty magic, he wanted to glance behind to see who had cast it but the writhing hunger held his gaze with morbid curiosity. It's skin split like an overcooked ashyam and steam rushed out in a fetid burst, then more gashes opened and he saw its insides were smouldering. Ash began to fall from it then suddenly there was only dust.

Rothan stared in shock for a moment then rushed back to the fallen guard before another daedra could fill the hunger's place. Looking back he saw Rianne had been watching the spells effect. Had she cast it or merely observed? He didn't know and the guard needed help.

Then the pilgrim was there. Rothan grabbed one of the guards arms and the pilgrim took the other. As they dragged him away towards the enterance of the cavern Rothan noticed the pilgrims arms again, the robe had been burnt by a fireball and the bracer showed through clearly. It was a slaves bracer, there was no doubting it, and the pilgrim had very odd skin. Very odd. Perhaps the pilgrimage was for a cure.

At the back of the chamber Rothan dropped the guards arm and looked at the wounds. All his stuff was in his pack, he patted his robes pockets and was relieved that he had left a bit of resin mixed with corkbulb in a packet. For a moment he fiddled with the guard's cuirass straps but they were slick with blood.

"Do you have a knife?" he asked the pilgrim.
