Iīve been thinking a bit over why Skingrad is so different compared to the other towns. I mean, itīs not too far out or anything but there are some things that I canīt get a grip on.
First, isnīt Skingrad the only town where all the doors are reinforced? Why is that? It canīt be because of the count because no one outside the Mages Guild knows about his "state".
Second, why is Skingrad the only town to have guards prancing around in heavy armor? Is there a specific lore explanation Iīm not aware of?
I do love Skingrad but these things cream my corn. I think Iīve read something about Skingrad being at war with Kvatch in old times, is that why this is?
Please, help me!

Some possible answers:
First: I imagine it would be because they started building the city before the walls were built. With the main road running through the town center, until the walls and gate were built people needed the extra security of reinforced doors. This continued after the walls were finished for the sake of tradition.
Or
They're all reinforced to keep out rowdy drunks.
Second: The heavier armour probably goes back to the same source as the reinforced doors. Added protection before the walls and gates were built, then kept as tradition.
That's what I generally write them off as, when I'm not inclined to put Skingrad's oddities down to the abundance of wine.
