Chapter 2

“And Crispin Crispian shall ne'er go by from this day until the ending of the world but we in it shall be remembered. We few, we happy few, we band of brothers. For he today who sheds his blood with me shall be my brother. Be he ne'er so vile, this day shall gentle his condition, and gentlemen in England now abed shall think themselves accursed they were not here, and hold their manhoods cheap whilst any speaks, that fought with us upon St. Crispin's day!” -King Henry V addressing the troops before the battle of Agincourt on St Crispians Day in 1415

“Get up!” A sharp pain came across my face. “What did I just say? Get up!” Again something hit me across my face.

“He’s not going anywhere by himself. Come on lets drag him to shore.”

I could barely see a thing. My vision was blurry and my face was numb. They grabbed my arms and legs and lifted me up and carried up some steps and through a door. I was suddenly thrown to the ground. I tried to stand up but fell back down to the ground. A quick blast of cold air told me I was outside. There was something strange about the air too. It did not feel the same as the dry warm air of my land. I squinted to try to see where I was but I only saw a dull white blur. Someone grabbed my shoulder and pushed me farther forward.

“Keep moving.”

It seemed like for hours we walked. Strange noises always echoed through area we walked in. As we walked my vision improved but barely. I was able to tell that I was in a forest with snow all over the place. This was definitely not Vardenfell. I tried to recoup my memories of what happened before I woke up in this place. I remembered being in a city watching something burning in the middle of the street. That was all I was able to recall though before the men leading me somewhere told me to stop. I could see several houses and people moving about on a ridge about 100 yards from where I was standing.

I was lead in to the groups of houses and placed on the ground by a well. I looked around me. There were 6 houses all built of wood and stone. There was Armour at the end of town. The other 5 building looked to be either sleeping quarters or storehouses. I looked for the people I thought I saw. They were talking with the men who brought me here to this place. The first thing that went through my mind was here’s my chance to flee. But the curiosity of this strange world kept me glued to the wet ground. The men came back to me.

“How’s our little prisoner doing?” One of them said grinning at me.
I grinned back. “I’m doing fine nord.”

He glared at me and pulled his hand back and was about to strike when the other man silent until now stopped him.

“Do not strike him. He will need to look well when we show the imperials how well we treat our prisoners.” He grinned at me with brown worn teeth.

I glared. What did that mean? What would showing the imperials how well my health was help them? “What do you plan to do with me?” I asked.

“You will see in due time young dunmer, in due time indeed.” He said.
They laughed, picked me up and drug me to a building.

“You will stay in here.” One of them untied my hands. I was shoved inside. They bolted the door behind me. I looked around. No windows, locked door… No way out. I sat down. Time to think.
How can I get out of here and where am I?

I cut down nords one right after another, but they kept coming. It seemed like every time I killed one 3 more came to take his place. I was so tired, my arms ached my heart pounded against my chest and I was gasping for air. I felt like just throwing down my sword and getting down on my knees to forfeit my life. But the picture of me returning to my homeland and spending time with my friends kept me going. I had something to hang on to, something to get back to. I was not going to give up now!

I did my best to protect my comrades behind me but there’s only so much one man can do. I slashed one as he ran up to me; I stabbed another as he ran past. I was fixing to do deliver a killing blow to another nord when someone crashed into me from behind.

“Wha?” I jumped back up getting ready to kill whoever was behind me. I looked around for whoever bumped into me but I didn’t see anyone. I looked down and saw a nord with an arrow sticking out of him in the snow. I turned my attention to a nord raining blows on one of my fellow soldiers. I ran up behind him and was about to stab him when the man he was fighting stabbed him for me in the gut. After the man composed himself he gestured me to come with him.

I ran with him to a group of 6 soldiers on top of a small hill. They all had wounds and looked like the only thing keeping them from collapsing was their fear that a group of nords might come running up the hill behind us.

“Where’s Dultog?” someone asked.

The man that led me here responded first. "He should be back soon. He went back out to see if there are any more survivors."

“Who’s in charge here for now?” I asked.

They all looked at each other then back at me and shrugged. Great now because I asked that question their going to want me to be in charge untill Dultog gets back... If he ever does. I put that thought out of my mind.

“Well I guess we’ll have to wait for him to get back then.” One said. I nodded and sat down against a rock. The others did the same.

I didn’t take long for Dultog to get back. It was a shame that he came back alone. Would have thought more would have made it. But I guess these so called rebels are not just a bunch of farmers and hunters. Dultog saw me and walked this way. He sat down in front of me and started drawing a picture in the snow.

“This is a map of where we are.” He began. “WE WERE supposed to go here and eliminate any resistance in that area. But as you can see they seemed to anticipate that and set an ambush for us. We need to get back to camp and rethink our situation.”

“I thought these men were rebels and couldn’t fight at all? That was also a lot of men for a rebel force.” I said.

“These men must have had training of some sort. No backwater rebel force could set an ambush like that and carry it out while inflicting heavy causalities on their enemy.” He sighed. “Your right also. That was a lot of men for a rebel force on this small of an island. There should have been at least 60 men in that force. But I could have sworn we just got attacked by about 300 men.”

“Something is seriously wrong here. We need to get back to camp as soon as possible and report what happened. We might be able to prevent this from happening again.” That last sentence really made me think. I was treating my enemy like I wanted to keep them alive. I realized I had paused and nodded just for reassurance. This one could get complicated.
