"So, youngster, what do you want to be when you grow up?"

Here's something that I haven't seen here before, so it should be a nice change of pace. What are some dream jobs that, at some point in your life, you thought would be really cool to have? The specific questions I have in mind are:

1) What did you want to grow up to be when you were a kid?
2) What is your dream job now?
3) What is a job that you didn't necessarily want to have, but thought it would be interesting, amusing, easy, etc. to do?

Feel free to answer all, a couple, or one (or none, but there's no fun in that) of these questions. Or give any answer regarding dream jobs.

I'll start.
1) I don't remember if I ever explicitly thought it, but the first thing I ever wanted to be was probably an astronomer. I adore outer space, and I was seriously into it when I was a kid. Never would want to travel there, but I sure do love learning about it. I don't have the childlike enthusiasm I once did, and I have little time to devote to it now due to responsibilities and other hobbies, but space is still rad. Astronomy is uniquely interesting in a way that other subjects aren't, in my opinion, even though it isn't my favorite anymore and I don't invest in it that much.

2) My hopes after I am done with schooling is to be a political analyst. The science behind the politics is absolutely fascinating to me. My dream would be to have a radio show one day where I talk political science.

3) I never truly wanted to have this job, but I think it would be amusing and pretty comfortable living to be the random stats guy for sporting events. Seriously, I don't know how people find some of these obscure sporting stats. "The only player in NBA history to have 25 points, 10 assists, 8 rebounds, 3 blocks, and 2 steals on a Thursday night after getting over the flu the week before and eating Wheaties for breakfast in the shot-clock era is Kobe Bryant." (Only a slight exaggeration.)

Speaking of basketball, Brian Scalabrine had it made when he played. He was an NBA player who recently retired, but when he played he literally came off the bench for a few minutes a night and popped a couple 3-points shots (which he was good at). All while making a decent chunk of change and winning a championship. Now that's the kind of job to have.

So what about you all?

1) What did you want to grow up to be when you were a kid?
I've racked my ever-feebler brain over this one, with no sure results. The answer is likely that, even at an early age, my innermost self wanted to be a low-down good-for-nothing bum.

2) What is your dream job now?
To be a low-down good-for-nothing bum. Now in full retirement, I no longer need to mask my life's desire!

3) What is a job that you didn't necessarily want to have, but thought it would be interesting, amusing, easy, etc. to do?
During my military career, I for a time held the position of Director of (Squadron) Operations. It was one of the most important duties within our organization. Fraught with great peril to the holder if done poorly, and nowhere to hide in case of screw-up. I did not seek this duty. It was thrust on me when the fellow I replaced lost the trust of our Commanding Officer and Superintendent. To my surprise, I took to it like a duck to water. Oh, I had my weaknesses, but they amounted to surprisingly little. I held the position two years, relinquishing it when transferred to another duty station.
