Fallout Character Ideas Options

We have character/roleplay idea threads for Oblivion and Skyrim, so I thought I would create one for the Fallout games. I wonder if we could use a Fallout section now?

For a while now I have been kicking around the idea of playing The Shoveler (inspired by the character with the same name from Mystery men). She would use a shovel for a main weapon, the nailgun for a ranged weapon, wear the construction helmet, and maybe the roving trader outfit (as it has lots of pockets and little do-dads hanging off of it).

Over time this idea morphed into one of playing a character like The Undertaker. But with a shovel (to bury their victims of course). Today I made a breakthrough with the Undertaker concept. The character will be a Lich, and use the Deadwalker mod I created in both FO3 and New Vegas for Persephone. But the twist with the new character is that she is a Mad Scientist who made herself undead. Probably with some sort of Prometheus Serum.

So I was thinking of wearing one of the Mad Scientist Scrubs from Old World Blues. But I am not sure about the colors. They come in red, green, and sort of teal, and an off-white. The only one that might work is the white. But I already have a character in white - Persephone. So I'd rather not go there again. So I am thinking of making a black version of the scrubs. Some quick testing has already been promising. Some other ideas on clothing are the black and red Outcast Robes, or the Outcast Recon Armor.

I have thought about covering part of some of her face. Using the breath mask from Lonesome Road plus some sort of helmet or hat is one idea. Another is to try one of the versions of the Lobotomite Masks - with or without goggles. The Valence-Oscillator (halo) is in the running too.

Since the character is a mad scientist, she will be an energy weapons user. Not sure on the weapon she will use. Not that there really are very many.

I also know this will be a rather nasty character. Playing Persephone in New Vegas I ran into difficulty with healing, as stimpacks are pretty scarce in that game, and eating and sleeping don't work for a Deadwalker (my roleplay). It occurred to me that the cannibal perk would help with healing. But that is just not what Persephone is. But the Lich is a perfect cannibal, and a vampire in FO3, and even a ghastley scavenger in NV. I'll probably use the console to give her the cannibal perk from the start of the game. Who knows, she might be so evil that she will even blow up Megaton?

I am not sure on a name yet. Here are some ideas:

Kalma - Finnish goddess of death and decay, her name meaning "The Stench of Corpses"

Kali - Hindu goddess of death.

Akka - A group of female underworld spirits in Sami and Finnish mythology.

Loviatar - Finnish goddess of death and disease. Daughter of the Underworld Queen Tuonetar.

Morta - Roman goddess of death.

Right now Loviatar is looking best. It has a nice ring to it.

Allison Chains will work better. Allison will be sort of punk rock. She'll have wild hair and stuff. She will probably be sort of gray...not the goodie that Linda Hand was.

I really don't want to be that guy, but given that Alice in Chains is my favorite band, I just wanted to note something. Punk rock wouldn't work for that name. AIC was well after the heyday of punk rock. Maybe these pictures will give you something to work with, from their days with Layne Staley and then post-Staley (William DuVall).

Apart from that, yeah, morally gray probably works best.

I tried to play Fallout3 a couple of weeks ago, but it just would not launch, even after I tried reinstalling it through GOG. Couldn’t get into the vampire concept I was trying to play in Fallout4. Just never felt right. So, no new Fallout characters for me, unfortunately.

It wouldn't launch through GOG? Huh, that's weird. Do you use mods that might have messed with it? Do you use GOG Galaxy or do you manually download it? I just use Galaxy so I don't have to tinker with a bunch of things, so if you normally do it manually, maybe try that. The vampire concept could have worked well with The Family in Fallout 3, too.

And hello, Desertwalker! It's been some time since I last saw you. I haven't been on the forums a whole, especially General Discussion, so maybe that is why it has been a while.


EDIT: @SubRosa, nope, Games for Windows Live isn't in the GOG version. That's the one I use. (Also, last time I checked, Steam's store page for Fallout 3 indicates that it doesn't work on Windows 10 naturally.)

Since I'm not a hardcore roleplayer, maybe that's a big reason why I have this issue, but there are some kinds of characters I just cannot bring myself to play. Guess I empathize too much with some pixels.

In Fallout 4, I've off-and-on considered playing a character that sides with the Brotherhood of Steel, but I just can't do it. I don't want to do Railroad again, and I have my grievances with them too. I really can't do the Institute either, even though meeting them shows them to be a bit more morally complex than they initially seem (though a bunch of its members are still terrible people). That would leave the Minutemen, but their part in the main questline is really gimped, which I suspect was due to time constraints on releasing the game.

On a related note, I went back to my replay of Fallout 3 about a week or so ago after a long hiatus. Running into Arthur Maxson while knowing what he becomes in Fallout 4 makes me want to drop-kick the little twerp. I wonder what Roger Maxson would have thought of him.

I know they aren't punk, they are more toward the grunge era. I was talking about my character though. She'll have a punk look. Or grunge. Or she'll be a metal chick. Doesn't really matter to me, as long as she's not sporting a Prim 'n' Proper coif.

And yeah, me too, on the subject of characters. Some types I can't get into! I can play a thief, I can play a murderer, but never a rapist, for instance. Or somebody who enjoys torture (wait.... never mind on that one. Although she was in Elder Scrolls, not Fallout).
