I watched about half the first episode. It definitely has the look and feel of Fallout 4 down perfectly. All the art design is exactly the same. It also has that dark Fallout wit, which is kind of funny, kind of *gasp, did you just say that*. Like the not at all subtle allusions of incest and cousins in the Vault.
I thought the layout of multiple separate vaults that are interconnected to be odd. That still throws me, as we have never seen that in a game. But I think they subtly explained it through the incest, and the need for fresh DNA to avert a rash of Hapsburg Chins.
There is certainly a big mystery in the Vault portion of this episode. Who is dear old Dad really? Who is this Raider boss? Etc... So now Lucy certainly has an inciting incident to go exploring in the world.
I only watched a little bit of Maximus' portion. I did like that I was immediately able to identify him and the others as being in the Brotherhood of Steel. At first it kind of looked like a gang initiation. But they were all wearing matching shirts and pants, like they were uniforms, and I could see bunker entrances all around. So instead I think he is the outsider kid adopted by the Brotherhood, and as such I bet he gets beat up by the "pure blood" members who were born into it.
And finally Walton Goggins. I forget the character's name. I think he becomes a ghoul, and we will see him again in the present day. I actually liked him, which is saying a lot for me. I can't stand the guy. Which is through absolutely no fault of his own. The first time I ever saw him was on the TV show The Shield. He played such a vile, disgusting, weaselly worm of a corrupt cop so well that it is forever colored my perception of him. Needless to say, that makes him great for playing a villain to me.
But this time out I really liked him, and his brief little scene with his daughter. So I am looking forward to seeing more of him, maybe not as a douche-canoe that I will love to hate, but someone I can actually root for (this is Fallout, so I am not getting my hopes too high).
In any case, I am glad they started the show out with him, in the past. I loved how they used the setting of the child's birthday party to show the Old World. The Mr. Handy, the tv sets, the cars, etc... I also really loved how people went out of their way to *not* pay attention to the news. Like turning off the TV when the weatherman is saying he can't give the forecast for next week, when there might not *be* a next week. And of course, he was right about that...
So my guess is we are going to have 3 main POV characters in the show. Lucy, Max, and The Ghoul.
