Alright for anyone who wishes to read the first six chapters, here's the link: http://www.waiting4oblivion.com/forums/ind...p?showtopic=675I would recommend reading them, they're likely the best of the story. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Chapter 7Kiln walked around town pointlessly until dark, he wasn't tired. He couldn't help but wonder what trouble York was in and how he needed his help. He walked back towards the Eight Plates and entered. Tomorrow he would go to the fort. It would be an awkward return even though he'd heard Larrius had left days before, off to Gnisis for his evaluation. Larrius was quite corrupt, perhaps he'd been discovered. Kiln sat with Rami and the drunks listening to them laugh and sing. He stared at Rami's face when she wasn't paying attention, amazed at her beauty. The most popular drink was likely flin but he drank what he always had, the bitter but effective mazte. He poured more of the drink for himself, watching the brown liquor flow softly from the opening and into the tall mug. At the moment everything seemed perfect but things never stayed like that for long in his experience. In the morning he would get his armor repaired, buy some supplies and food and wait until the following day to meet York at the fort. Kiln opened the journal and read more of it's pages, "Today I talked to Caius again, he wants me to speak with some stupid orc in the mage's guild about doing a favor or something, I'm nothing but an errand boy I swear..." Kiln thought for a moment, he'd met with the same orc...strange how their paths had led together so many times but it was probably nothing. For now he would sleep and worry more about that later, he put the journal back into it's pouch and lied it beside the bed. Rami walked in lying down beside him and he fell into a deep sleep holding her close to him. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sorry it's so short but my pain meds suck and I'm getting off soon. Kiln glanced nervously from hound to hound, waiting for one to leap at him. His feet were already pruned from standing in the edge of the water so long, they were waiting for something.
The creatures were afraid to go in the water so Kiln started to slowly make his way back to the camp through the water, the hounds followed closely along the shore, waiting for him to come back to land.
Still somewhat afraid, Kiln picked up a few rocks from the water and threw them hard at the beasts, his skills as a marksman were quite clear as he hit none of the dogs while they were standing still.
Unable to hit them, he continued to the town, where he would leave the hounds to the guards. All was going as planned and then something happened, one of the creatures stepped into the water to test how deep it was and then made it's way closer and closer to him.
One of the hounds had figured it out and the others soon followed. Now Kiln was really in trouble, with all the weight he had with him, he wouldn't be able to swim, so he backed up until he reached a point where the land dropped off into deep water and he stopped.
A hound grabbed hold of his pantleg, tugging relentlessly. Kiln fell into the water swinging his sword at it from side to side as his head went under. The beast tore at his leg violently trying to pull him from the water.
Kiln stabbed straight down towards his foot and the tugging stopped suddenly. He forced his head above the water and looked down at the creature, a horrible pain came from his foot, he'd stabbed the hound that was attacking him.
After a moment he noticed why his foot was hurting so badly, he had also stabbed through his foot to kill the monster. There was no time to worry about that now though, he had to kill the others.
Struggling to his feet, he readied himself to fight the other hounds, blood flowed clearly in the water and the hounds were driven crazy by it. They moved much more quickly now, the smell of blood strengthening their senses as they went into a mad fury to get to Kiln.
Kiln glanced to the ground and before he looked back up, something large hit him in the chest and knocked him to the ground. One of the beasts was on him, tearing violently at him with it's claws and fangs.
Blood rushed into the water as the creature hit Kiln several times with its claws. Kiln struggled to get up but the creature held him underwater, still tearing at him. After a moment, he managed to pull his blade up and stab it into the creature, kicking it off of him seconds later.
Kiln gasped for air as his head resurfaced from the water, he saw the the other hound coming towards him quickly. It lept on top of him, knocking him into the deep part of the water, the beast had jumped directly onto the blade of his sword but now he was sinking from the weight of his old iron chestplate.
Struggling to unstrap the chestplate, Kiln cut the straps with his sword. He knew he had to get out of the water quickly, his blood would draw slaughterfish to him. He swam towards the surface of the water and desperately crawled onto the shore. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Edit: Removed a few instances of overuse of "Quickly" in one of the paragraphs.
