My first fanfic, will probably be very rubbish -.-
"So," thought Cyrodiil Jones as he sat in the tree, "THIS was what all the fuss was about? Being chased by a pack of wolves? Being forced to hack through a load of thick, smelly undergrowth? I swear," he thought, "if I go through all this and it turns out there is no treasure, i'll kill that Argonian." Four days earlier, his contact in the Imperial City, Sits-in-The-Shade, had tipped him off about a bunch of mercenaries who had set up camp in some ruins in the middle of the almost jungle-like forest, and had supposedly dissapeared, leaving their loot behind. Of course, he wasn't Shade's only contact, and he was certain that several other adventurers would be hacking their way through the forest even as he climbed. He looked down to check whether the wolves had gone, and jumped down. He heard a rustle in the bushes, and dived under a fallen tree trunk that had rotted away. Face down in the dirt, he heard a voice. He couldn't place the accent. Possibly Redguard? "It's nothing. Probably just a deer." Another voice said "I'll check." This one was female. He heard the distinctive sound of a detect life spell, and breathed a sigh of relief that he had remembered to bring his hat of concealing. "Nothing," said the second voice, "I told you! You're too jittery. Let's go." He cautiously raised his head, and saw a Redguard and a High Elf female hacking through the bushes. "So I was right then," he thought. "I've gotta be more careful." He waited until the sounds of the two adventurers faded, then stood up, checked his map, aimed himself in the right direction, unslung his bow, and marched off.
Four Days Later...
Cyrodiil Jones crept through the trees, following on silent footsteps the two adventurers he had encountered before. There was no doubt about it, they were after HIS treasure. He aimed his bow at the Redguard, reasoning that he should take out the strongest first, and released the bowstring. His arrow wizzed straight through the trees, through the back of the Redguards head and out the other side. The High Elf female looked round at the soft grunt and thud of the body falling, spotted Jones and conjured demonic armour over her slightly tattered robes. He fired an arrow at her, but she caught it with telekinesis, and sent it zooming straight back at him, missing by a hair's breadth. He swore under his breath, ducked and rolled and drew his enchanted dagger. It gleamed in his hand more than it should normally in this murky forest. She sent a fireball straight at his head, but he leaned easily to one side and dodged it, then charged her. She seemed to have decided that magic wasn't going to help her here, and summoned a twisted axe into her hand. He swiped at her legs, she leapt a foot into the air and rolled behind him. He was amazed at the skill shown here. This one was good. There was no time for admiration though. She swiped upwards with her axe, obviously trying to disarm him, but he jinked sidewards and stabbed towards her head with the dagger. She ducked, twirled the axe in elaborate circles and swung mightily towards his head. He leapt backwards just in time, and shook his head. "You fight well, for a mage," She didn't reply, but just leapt, but he was ready for her,and slid under her wild swipe and stabbed upwards into her stomach. She screamed as the enchanted dagger emptied its poison into her, and collapsed, clutching her stomach. He dropped the dagger onto the floor and said, "You should have run." He went to the body of the Redguard and checked it as the Elf's blood ran onto the forest floor. He didn't have much gold, but he had a interesting little device and a key. He pocketed both. He would have a look at the device later, but right now he wanted to see what the key was. He suspected that the key was to the ruins he was heading towards. He pulled a grubby piece of paper out of his pocket, and checked the diagram on it against the key. Yes, no doubt, this was the key. He pocketed it again, and left.
Good, no? The next episode will be back, depending on fan ratings.
