Hope it's ok that I ask this here.

I have all settings/sliders at max within the game, and mipmapping set to best quality in the ATI Control Center. Still I'm not too happy with how it looks in game. Even after a short distance the textures disappear and the landscape looks very 'empty' and boring.

Note how the textures disappear after a while: Picture 1

I'd like the textures to look like they do on the left on this picture also on the right side: Picture 2

Anyone have any tips for adjusting this in the ini file or something?

Thanks.

Will this effect me badly, I have everything on medium and full distance scale at the top, but mostly everything off, no water reflections, and no HDR just bloom, its still laggyish though, mostly when im outside so its kind of hard to travel.

Well there's nothing wrong with that CPU!

I also have a dual core CPU (AMD 4400+ X2), and I have a CPU/RAM indicator on the keyboard. I notice when playing that the CPU usage is about 50-60% at all times on average (equally divided between both CPU's).

I have no good knowledge of newer nVidia cards, but if you can afford it I highly recommend a recent ATI card. I have a X1900XTX (PCI-E 512MB), and it's simply amazing. It will take a long time before I'll need a CPU upgrade again, as the card does all the work.

I also have 2GB RAM. Before I installed the files discussed above the RAM usage was up to 65% after some time of playing, while now I have seen it at 75% after playing a few hours. So RAM seems to be quite beneficial when playing Oblivion as well, to avoid the pauses and high loading times.
