What is your favorite sport? Do you like any sport at all?
Do you like playing it, or just watching it?

Mine's football.
And I don't mean American football, I'm thinking real football (soccer to you yanks tongue.gif)

But in Football you don't carry a big wooden stick.

Still, I don't like sport that involves padding. American Football (and I can say this because I've played it) is wussy compared to Rugby and Aussie Rules. You don't NEED all the pads and crap - it's like walking around as a tank. Basically the line of scrimmage is exactly the same as a contested scrum, and a catch can be the same as...well, a catch.

American Football is like watered down Rugby. And whilst I'm sure some people like wussy games (nothing wrong with it, in fact I'm not so much one on psychosports myself) I just get peeved when people go on about how tough it is, as though it's some merit badge to be a lobotomised and overwieght man that only plays defence or offence and feels the need to wear a helmet and pads.

Also what is it with American sports and ad breaks? A 60 minute game lasts 5 hours once you've had your bursts of advertisement whilst they...I don't know, walk around doing nothing between plays. It's not a really good spectator sport - it's like playing a PC game that pauses itself every five seconds.

That's where you're terribly wrong.
American Football

Compare to.....

Rugby

Notice the first tackle. That's a STANDARD tackle in American football; something that repeats itself almost every single play. Yet the announcer calls it the biggest hit of the season. Hands down, American Football is much more violent than rugby.

Like I said - having played both, having experienced both, Rugby is more violent.

But that doesn't mean it's the same in the pro league. If it's so wimpy as you say it is, they wouldn't have so many injuries. I don't know, I wouldn't want some fat boar jump on me even if I had the armor wacko.gif

Oh, I have no idea what it's like at pro level. But at college level (I played at Uni) the game is very very rough and very very dirty. American Football is more regulated, and thus far less brutal.
