Part 6
Filtered sunlight washed my aching face, effectively waking me. I groaned softly, wishing for more sleep. The ever persistent sun, however, would not leave me be. Relinquishing my desires, I sat up and stretched my arms out. I was brought to a sudden dread; a dense forest sprawled around me in every direction.
"Enjoy your sleep, Brother?" My blood surged at the arrival of the new voice. I whipped my head around to see the grey haired lycan. My fear instantly melted away into bitter rage.
"No thanks to you, wretch!" I cried remorsefully at the one who called me 'Brother.' "Why have you done this to me? Wasn't there someone else's life you could have ruined?!"
My foe crossed his arms and looked at me apathetically. "You are rather selfish considering this gift I have given you," he countered.
"Gift?! You would think to call this a gift?! Maybe to you it is, but I have a life to live out!" I shouted.
"Really then? Rotting in prison is your idea of a life? It bears mentioning that you would have died in there, you know."
"I was working on a plan to get out!" I waved my rusted gauntlets in his face. "I was constantly builiding my strength up! I would have escaped!"
"I guarantee you, with the food they give you in there, you wouldn't have escaped." Soaring with blind fury, I leapt to my feet and dove at the man. Swinging out my fist, I planted it into his chest. He stood his ground, not budging an inch. With no more momentum, I sank to the ground. He grabbed me, though, and roughly threw me into a tree.
"I give up," I sighed. Looking over at him, panting all the while, I noticed that he was not even standing in a fighting position.
He really is good. "What is your name, and what do you want from
me?"
"My name is Kerric. I have already told you why I need you; to bolster our ranks. As you have most definitely realized by now, you have no other choice. You WILL come with me." I breathed a tired sigh. I really did have no other choice.
You owe him your life, Sirin. Bear this in mind."Where do we go next, then, Kerric?" He smiled and beckoned me to follow him. Rising to my feet, I followed him into my new life.
Why me?
