Hmm, I'm not too sure if it's balanced enough the way it is. And the final sentence has an odd Luperish sound to it. kvright.gif

Clash of the Titans: Telina vs Taillus.

Mehrunes Dagon tapped his foot.
,,No, no, no. I don’t care how many skulls that Orc decorated his home with, I’m not interested in another warrior against warrior match.” He complained. Molag Bal shrugged.
,,Warrior against thief? I know a nice one….” He tried to no avail.
,,No, we had that already. How about, warrior against mage? Yes, brains against brawn. Perfect!”

There was a pool in the throne-room, as large as the pit of an arena and as black as oil. Now this pool became transparent and gave its masters an image of their candidates.
,,Oh, the Imperial Battlemage. He might be good.” Molag Bal commented, pointing at a bearded Altmer who inhabited one corner of the pool.
,,Bah, I had it with those. First one of those idiots banishes me at the Battlespire and then that fool of a Jagar Tharn gets himself killed in a most humiliating way. No, no Battlemages! At least not Imperial ones.” Dagon objected.

One by one, the images faded and the freed up space was taken by the remaining ones. Finally, Mehrunes Dagon had found the one he wanted.
,,There, that Dunmer. Apart from not liking the Empire she might also prove to be a match for your Taillus.” He said, letting all other images fade with a gesture of his hand.
,,Right, summon her right away. I’m getting restless.” Molag Bal replied.

A crackle, a flash and there she was. Dressed in a emerald green robe, she blinked with her crimson eyes and brushed a loose lock of silvery hair out of her face.
,,Just during dinner.” She mumbled in an annoyed tone.

,,THE RULES ARE SIMPLE, MAGUS! DEFEAT THIS MAN AND LIVE, OR DIE!” Mehrunes Dagon’s voice resounded from his throne room, echoing all over the tower. After the last few fights, he’d decided that following the battle with his pool would be easier than actually trying to physically follow the combatants as they moved around.
,,Bugger.” Telina Delvanni spoke in reply. She looked at her opponent in silence. Taillus looked back with the same silence, though a mocking grin edged around his lips. It was David against Goliath, only David did not use a sling. David preferred Magicka.

From outward appearances, it seemed that Taillus was little more than a brute with a steroid overdosis. But judging someone solely by his outward appearance was a bad idea, something Telina had learned early in her life. No, it was more effective to reach into his soul and draw conclusions from what could be found there. A simple trick for a telepath. She’d already reached into his mind before she’d even decided to do so. Habits were hard to ignore.

If she’d expected tranquil silence, she’d expected wrong. In the man’s mind she found a storm of a thousand voices, all screaming in unison. After a second or two, she realized that she’d started screaming with them. She staggered and withdrew from his mind but still caught the last voice, one that rose up over all the others.
,,This is no place for little girls. You could get hurt. You will get hurt.”

While Telina clung to her staff for support and tried to shake off the effects of the mental barrage, Taillus calmly picked up his axe and then dashed forwards, his boots kicking up clouds of sand in his wake. He opened the battle with a simple downward chop. Simple, but powerful. If it hit, the fight would be over already. It didn’t, for Telina came back to her senses and dodged at the last moment. Taillus’ axe scraped against the staff and ripped it free from her hands.

,,I said you’d get hurt.” The man howled and raised his axe for another swing. Out of nowhere, a fireball hit him in the side. The Daedric armour took the brunt of the attack, but he still felt the pain. He wheeled around towards the mage who’d apparently snuck up behind him. The only sight that greeted him was the staff which promptly rose up from the ground and returned to its owner’s hands.
,,That’s an interesting toy.” He sneered and turned back to Telina. Instantly, he had to duck under a whip of fire that originated from the ‘toy’.
,,Seeing you dead is more interesting for me!” The woman shouted at him. She’d fully recovered from her failed attempt at telepathy.

Taillus created some distance between them and re-evaluated his plan. Any attack he performed now would be harder to land. But one hit was all he needed. His opponent had no armour or anything, only that staff. He had no idea what kind of spells she had in store though. From what he’d seen already, he should not underestimate her. That telepathy alone could have been fatal if it wasn’t for his unique mental condition. In the end he decided to stay at a distance and provoke her into using all of her Magicka in long distance attacks he could dodge. Once she’d ran out of spells, he could finish the job.
,,Oh yeah? You’ll have to hit me first then! Give it your best shot, ashskin!” He taunted.

Okay, it's not as long as you might've hoped. Anyway, in the end the whole fight came down to one thing. Who was bluffing who?

Telina cocked an eyebrow. Ashskin? She hadn’t heard that one in a while. But being thoroughly unoriginal, it got the job done.
,,You’ll wish you’d never said that!”

She lashed out with her whip, which came just short of reaching Taillus. The man laughed to provoke her even further and ducked the fireball that was thrown at him. More spells were thrown his way. Fire, ice, lightning and the odd combination. He ducked, jumped and sidestepped around as many as he could, and took the ones he couldn’t avoid. He noticed that the spells increased in strength over time rather than weakening as he’d expected.
,,Is she truly growing in power as time passes, or are her reserves simply so enormous that she’s moving towards the full extent of her powers?” He asked himself with growing worries.

Telina gritted her teeth and sent a hail of ice across the arena. To her ever growing frustration, the annoying man ducked behind an Ebony pillar for cover. The ice smashed into the dark rock, glazing it over with the white of fresh snow. The Dunmer raised her hand for another spell. No spell came out.

Taillus waited, taking deep breaths in a rhythmic pattern. He counted the silent seconds between one spell and the next. Two, three, four, five. Five seconds had passed without another surge of Magicka being released. He smirked and feinted a lunge out from behind the pillar. No deadly projectile flew forth to destroy him. He turned his feint into an actual lunge and came to a halt on the open sands.
,,What’s this? The mage ran out of magicka?” He chuckled. Telina sent an extremely annoyed look at him and then at her own fingers, where miserable sparks sizzled in the warm air.

Taillus took a slow step forward. His eyes wandered to that odd staff, half expecting to see that whip again, or a fireball. Yet nothing came which confirmed his theory. The staff was an interesting toy, bound to its owner. As such, the two shared the same reserves of magicka. Once Telina had run out of Magicka to cast, the staff had run out as well.
,,They say that mages are smart. You should have known what I was doing. It is the oldest trick in the book.” He spoke with a dark voice as he took another step forward. Telina didn’t move. Perhaps out of pride, perhaps out of fear. Who knew?
,,Just what are you without your Magicka? What else can you do now? Are you going to challenge me as a warrior? No, I think you’re just going to die.” He continued and raised his axe high above his head.

To his horror, he felt his muscles freeze. With his best efforts, he couldn’t move a hair. His eyes blazed angrily, shouting the question his mouth couldn’t form. How?
,,You’re right. It is the oldest trick in the book. That’s why I kept a paralyzation spell in reserve.” Telina whispered and released her hold on the staff. The shaft split in two, then began to twist unto itself, changing shape into the form of two wicked shortswords. The mage caught the hilts and thrust them up into his armpits where they stuck. Even if the paralysis wore off, the only way for Taillus to swing that axe down was to sacrifice his arms.

Telina bent down and reached for something near her ankle that had been obscured by her robe all this time. Taillus’ eyes followed the hand. When she brought the hand back up, he saw it was a small dagger, like the ones used in a sacrifice.
,, And what am I without a large supply of magicka? An assassin.” The woman whispered to him and drew the silver blade across his throat.

And that finishes up this match. Tellie, your turn! smile.gif
