Well if we're going to stick the genre mentioned, for Rock bands I like I'd say the following:

Porcupine Tree
Hurt
Finger Eleven
Snow Patrol
Muse
Three Days Grace
A Perfect Circle

But Metal is the musical genre I like the most so I'll give you a few of my favs for that genre as well:

Mastodon
Solitude Aeturnus
Isis
Tool
Insomnium
Agalloch
Immortal
Judas Priest
Megadeth
Neurosis

There's others, but the list is starting to get big...
